I received a gift pack from Tormato yesterday (Mon 2-7-22)

I can hardy believe the goodies contained in the gift mailing. I want to express how grateful I am to all who donated these seeds full of promise, and can barely wait to get them started. I twisted the Daughters arm to grow a few of my regulars,so that I can grow all these awesome varieties. :D :D

Again, thanks to all those whose donated so that someone like me might benefit. I'm excited to say the least!

My seeds arrived! It was my end of the day treat [attachment=0]5D868AEB-7463-45ED-94C5-51515DBC25E7.jpeg[/attachment. Grabbed a glass of Rose and dug in
Best descriptions this year go to

#2- Frank's Large Red ( Pink)
and
#1 Dingwall Scotty-extremely tough plant, unique mildly hideous flavor.

Great selling points Tormato-shall we assume this is on the level of Purple Calabash?!
Thanks as always for all the seeds Tormato and for the laughs too.

In 2017, I started about 20 seedlings very early and put them outside during the day. Dingwall Scotty thrived while all the rest died. If I had known earlier what it was going to taste like, I would have thought hard about tossing it.

I'll likely never trial Purple Calabash after reading enough descriptions from those who despise it. PC sounds like a strongly flavored tomato. Dingwall Scotty is weak flavored, but what little taste there is, is basically indescribably horrid, to me. Of course, starting this plant as the earliest ever, for me, meant the longest harvest of any variety that I've ever trialed. I thought maybe the taste might improve over the long season. I was wrong. A SunGold chaser to DS was the quick remedy to cleanse the palate.

It was on one wish list, there's about 5,000 seeds, and I have to start moving older inventory.

If it's any consolation, I think I spared all other participants from it.

Happy Valentine's Day

My package just arrived, and couldn't be more excited! I have a lot of work to do. Going to start my winter sowing this week. Now to cut all those milk jugs!

Thanks to everyone who contributed, but especially to Gary, "the enabler"!

I can't imagine how difficult it is to make just the perfect package for each of us, and as always the first thing I dig out is my note of what to plant. You made it easy for me this year. I always try to satisfy those first, and more often than not, fail in some manner or other. Switched to earth boxes last year, so hoping for better results.

Everything is just amazing and can't wait for this summer.

Thanks, Sue

If I get lucky enough to join in next time, I'll request Dingwall Scotty just to see! The name is interesting, any history to it?

All that I've read is that it likely comes from a place in Scotland called...Dingwall. It's probably the only tomato that would survive, when they have extreme weather.

If you want it, PM me a mailing address, as I'd like to get my inventory down to about 4,950 seeds.

If the deer throw them back and demand answers, you know you've got a baaaaaaaaaaaad tomato.

Dingwall Scotty may not be that bad in another's garden, as it was in mine. Then again, it's possible that it could be even worse.

For some unknown reason, the vast majority of red tomatoes that I trial are extremely bland, with the taste of the skin of the tomato overwhelming any flavor (if there is any) coming from the inside. That DS had some flavor was kind of a shock. The reds in my garden are generally "all in" (the very few), or "no shows" (almost all of them), flavorwise. DS is the only variety out of about 2,000 trialed, that I simply cannot describe its flavor. I I ever decide to give it another go, perhaps I could, or maybe it would taste different.

Another feature of this variety was its growth habit. It was one of the tallest plants that I've trialed, as it wanted to go straight up. Tall, and loaded down with fruit, with a single stake method of support, perhaps I used some extra twine to lasso this thing in. In any case, the fruit were hard to pick, as they wanted to closely hug all of the branches very tight. Why I struggled to pick those abominations, I'll never know. Maybe it was the hope that just one fruit would be decent.

And something I know even less, is why I now have several requests for it.

Tormato, Maybe in my soil DS will taste better. Many people rave about Uluru Ochre but in my garden it was awful. One of two kinds I actually spit out.

Thanks for telling me. Uluru Ochre was the last variety I packed before taking a break. I'll pick it off the top, and finish packing, so the package will go out tomorrow. If I miss grabbing it, it will sink into the deep, and you'll be outta luck.

Thank you, Gary :D . My fat seed package arrived this afternoon but I have yet to open. I was just watching one of my favorite (Canadian) youtubers who became a brand ambassador for West Coast Seeds, and she was showing and describing all the varieties they sent as a gift. I'll have to make a MMMM unwrapping vlog, trying to read and pronounce the tiny handwritten labels . It would get quite a few belly laughs from the group
