It's time! The Daphne odora has lots of fat buds.

Lo and behold, on the other side of the shrub I found the first bloom. It's amazing how consistent the Daphne is when it comes to bloom time. Last year the first flower opened on Jan 20. I think the latest it has ever started to bloom in Feb 7th. As soon as a bunch of the others open the air will be filled with that sweet scent I love. :)

Fantastic! I’ve been so tempted to put in daphne and edgeworthia … I did try some sarcococca and so far so good.

Probably about 28 years. I bought it back when I worked at a nursery and it was planted on the north side of the house for some shade. Then when the new house was built elsewhere on the property it got transplanted to it's current shady location before the old house was torn down. That thing is a survivor! It was rather neglected at the old house and basically survived on what rain it got. It's had a lot more attention since it moved. :)
