Re: How's your weather?
Actually, mid October is about right for here. It's the first light frost and then it usually warms up again after that. But rather than the usual one night stand it looks like three mornings in a row and possibly down to 32 instead of the usual 34-36 kind of frost. The first killing frost is somewhere around Nov 7-15.

Re: How's your weather?
Right now, I'm having a thunderstorm, which is unusual at this time of year. I probably didn't get a lot of rain, since it seems to be moving fast. It is going to get much colder - supposedly 44°, but tomorrow into the 30s, and probably frost. I got my curry tree, bay laurel, and kaffir lime trees inside - no freezes anytime soon, so I've got time to clean things out, and all that fun stuff. Supposed to get warm again after a few days.

After the heat, it is so nice now. A lighter breeze than normal, cooler and just a bit, mm, not really humid, but it is like the air itself is more full and rounded ?? Probably doesn't make sense, but it sure is nice.

Re: How's your weather?
As of Thursday or Friday coming, depending upon where you live, this state is forecast to receive around 75 mm/3 inches of rain over 5 days. Not going to be good for the flooded country. Bad enough here as we have not received all the rain that west of the Divide has. Rain forecast to run right up the coast well into Queensland.

Re: How's your weather?
first winter storm is mostly over. the keweenaw got off fairly light. maybe a couple inches of snow.
blustery north winds made work challenging. our drive thru window faces north. every time we opened
the window which is frequent to take care of customers, we would get a cold blast that would scatter anything
that was loose. some parts of the U.P. got more snow. ironwood schools to the west were closed. i am not sure
as of yet what areas got hammered, with how much snow. temps are in the low 30s, still windy, but should improve
toward the end of the week.

@rxkeith; as we have an...er...interest in the area, we kept a close eye on the Keweenaw and thought yer corner of the known Universe would be spared the heavier stuff.

We know summer's over down in these here parts when I'm compelled to break out my thick-lined Champion Hoodie, tights, and (groan) red-n-white scarf for outdoor running.

Supposed to get a frost here tonight, too, so any peppers or tomatoes out there will probably be picked today. I'll see if there's anything else worth pulling, that I forgot.

ironwood, mi got 14.3 inches of snow.
negaunee near marquette got a foot while some parts of marquette had no snow sticking to the ground.
50 mph winds creating 20 ft waves on the big lake. some areas got off light, other areas got hammered.
terrain, and wind direction is what it comes down to.

Two (2) of my least desirable garden tasks completed yesterday:
*Lifting ~ 60 Canna Lily Bulbs
*Spraying/removing soil off'n same
Taking into account the usually inclement weather which accompanies the above, the conditions were absolutely PERFECT for both.

Re: How's your weather?
Continuing unseasonably warm here with highs in the upper teens C, 60's F and lows still well above freezing, close to or above 50F which would be the normal highs.
Omega is gone but we were shown a pic of the jet stream this evening, with the polar vortex spinning above an enormous high that includes most of the states, but not much of Canada. The jet stream is dipping to the west and so there is cool weather out there, but not on this edge!
One thing about that picture, is how easily it could change overnight (and I'm sure it will, when the time comes), and plunge into cold.
However we were also shown a pic of the ocean SST anomaly - the entire Atlantic is at or above normal surface temperatures, but the 'really far above' sea water is bingo, right around us here! About 5 degrees C above normal. Weatherman says that means we will likely have rain instead of snow as we move into more typical temperatures and patterns. So perhaps it won't be too bad of a shock, the descent into November.
We're getting some lovely fall colors in spite of the warm temps, and leaves are hanging on because, well, it's sunny, not too windy, and fairly moose free, I am really enjoying the red leaves on sugar maple and hawthorn that in a 'normally moosed' year don't have many leaves to show.

Re: How's your weather?
Well th peppers made it, lol, but not sure, even though they bought themselves at least another week or two, that they are still growing much. Might give them a shot of fertilizer, which has been sorely lacking all season due to circumstances. With a week or two to go, they might have time to put it to some good use. Didn't want to bother with the temps in the 30s coming only to have them killed by frost a few days later. The season limps on, lol. Tomato plants got pulled, some of the cages, too, so should be heading into winter a little more prepared this year.

Re: How's your weather?
I had 3 nights in a row that I had a frost "advisory", but I got no frost, and things like basil - usually the first to get killed - wasn't really bothered, nor were my peppers or tomatoes. I left a bunch of cherry tomatoes on the vines, after picking about 4 qts of them, leaving smaller ones (and I'll get more ripe ones, now that it's going to be warmer). Even most of the bright green ones I picked seem to be ripening, while the green ones of the large varieties aren't ripening as much.

I was working in a building with a metal roof Friday when the storm came through.
The roar was out of this world.
Lightning crashing right outside.
I'm mean the flash and bang were simultaneous.
Enjoyed every minute of it.

Re: How's your weather?
Now it is back up to well over average temperature for this date. Got to 70° yesterday, and only down to 59° overnight. Supposed to get to 72° today, and one day next week is forecast to be 76°. Crazy weather.
