Yeah, it's funny how they grow differently from year to year.

There's Inkspot. It tastes good but it tends to form two stems. It would probably benefit from some pruning here and there. I didn't prune mine, just stuck more stakes in the pot, lol.

I think Forgotten Heirlooms has some purple micros as well.

Idk if chocolate counts as purple, and I haven't tried it indoors, but dwarf Tasmanian chocolate was excellent for me.

@AKgardener , the Ink Spot were the same for me. It's like they would never fully ripen. And they were slower than other micros I've grown.

I wonder why the Inkspot were a problem for you two. I didn't have any ripening issues, either for the ones in the house or the ones in the greenhouse. My main issue was that they got too leggy.

There's also Cosmic Jewell, which I grew in the ground last year. It never got very big and I'm going to try it in a basket this year. It was really good and quite productive. I think I sent some seeds in to the swap, but I have plenty left if someone wants some. I bagged a flower cluster and they almost all became fruit.

It got about 2 or 2.5 feet tall, but it wanted to droop over the wire of the cage rather than using the support to keep going up. That's why I'm going to try them in baskets this year.

It wasn't in my best soil, though, so they might get bigger in a more fertile location.

Inkspot was bad for me too. Took forever to ripen, and even when ripe it was a tart spitter.

Im itching for some gardening now that the sun is finally out. I think im going to seed the micros and keep them in my balcony grow tent until april.... Might need some heating pads.

An update on Maglia Rosa. I've had to add support and somewhat tie the Maglia Rosa tomato branches as it sure does have a weepy habit. It has set a lot of fruit too.

Image

Here are the two oldest clusters. It's taking them a long time to ripen but that's probably due to the lower light level. But I can see the beginnings of stripes on the tomatoes.

Well, I'm super happy with my Golden Hour tomatoes so far. The bigger plant has 8 noticeable tomatoes going and a ton of blossoms. It's between 17 and 18 inches tall.

Hey GoDawgs, how tall is that Maglia Rosa now? I see you have cut some branches, but have you tried to limit the number of leaders? I always argue with myself about how to prune the Artisan semi-determinates (Maglia Rosa, Marzano Fire, Taste Patio); if I was growing one inside like that, I would definitely try to control the number of leaders. Also, are you having any trouble with the lower leaves getting enough light?

On a more general (thread) note, after the difficult season last year, I'm pondering one of those grow tents. Seems like the reflective walls would help with the lower branches. I'm not sure I understand the fans that come in the kits; is that really necessary for tomatoes? Does it get that hot inside? I know they are mostly used for growing pot, regardless of the tomatoes they show inside in the Amazon illustrations.

It sure would be nice to grow some tomatoes in my basement without having to worry about frost, wind, birds, chipmunks, squirrels, groundhogs, racoons, deer, and most insects.

Hey, thanks for mentioning that (unless I missed it earlier in the thread), I was unaware that Wild Boar had come out with a couple of micros, going to look into that.

You certainly have a much nicer setup for indoor tomatoes. In the winter of 20/21 I had a setup that was eeehm, a bit less ideal :D

I just didn't want to wait another season to grow out the F1 of my first cross, so all I cared about was getting some seeds, not production. It did result in my own dwarf tomato lines being one season ahead, so that's nice (and I do love watching tomatoes grow, sometimes I literally zone out for minutes, idk it's really relaxing :D). But it was a huge amount of work, especially when I had to deal with fungus gnats for the first time (easy to solve with biological warfare). Maybe I'll make a separate thread for that "season" some day.

Yeah, these just came out last fall. I thought they looked really cool so I ordered them as soon as they were available. Golden Hour is a cross of Brad's Atomic Grape and a micro. It's supposed to be a small orange plum/cherry with some antho and very productive. It certainly seems to be living up to the billing for productivity so far.

The lights are 34" tall and the Maglia has been trimmed to 30" tall. Yeah, I thinned some foliage outand opening it up as it was getting too thick. It has three leaders and next time around I'll probably limit that to one or two. This is my first time out growing one of these indoors so I'm just seeing what it does if left to its own devices. The lower leaves seem to be OK as I open the blinds in the morning. It gets some sun for about two hours before the sun shifts away. BTW, I see one of the first tomatoes at the bottom is starting to starting to ripen; getting lighter green with a hint of yellow.

Could the fans be for controlling the humidity? Just guessing.
