I just tasted my first Kolkhoznitsa melon, and saved a lot of seeds.

For the next swap (2023/2024), I'm looking again for suggestions for veggie/fruit/herb/flower/etc...

This can be general types or specific varieties. I'll be ordering from catalog(s) and making my annual trip to the best seed store within my area in 2+ weeks.

I'm saving seeds for that! I've already saved some spaghetti squash and might be able to come up with yarrow and St John's wort. And your card is up on my fridge for reference.

I could gather my lemongrass seed,it flowers and forms seeds every winter and this winter is no exception. The seed is viable, I’ve sprouted the seed in the past. Occasionally, volunteers come up around the container.

Is anyone interested in lemongrass seed?

If anyone is interested in huacatay I still have seeds. They are a few years old and small so may not be viable. I would germ test before sending. The catch is that to multiply and save seed they’ll have to go somewhere with a longer growing season than I have as they never matured here before the season ended.

Could you send me some seeds in about a month? I'll try indoor starts, and later transplant. I can't find any info on how long it takes to produce viable seeds. And, it's a very interesting plant, with visible oil glands at the margins on the underside of leaves.

And, I'm still looking for input on things that people don't have, but would like, that I might find in my shopping.

I grew this in 2020. My growing season is about 120 days I think? I never noticed any flowers (or seeds), but it grew very tall. However, the following year I had volunteers in quite a few places. None last season though.

Chocolate Cosmos? They are pricey though. Any interesting flowers would be nice.
Basil, other herbs - I am a big fan of herbs, like basil. There are far more varieties than I would have expected.
Physalis sp. Tomatillos, Groundcherries and Andean berries all interest me.

Speaking of plant dyes (which I think is a great idea!), there was one online shop I was browsing that had this as a category. They have seeds for many other interesting things too.

From what I've read, chocolate cosmos would have to be plant rootings/cuttings, as the seeds are sterile.

Herbs- I'm looking for suggestions as to what type, and what specific named varieties within an herb type.

That's likely a go. I have both Territorial and Pinetree catalogs that carry it. Just before ordering, it'll be more than a week from now, I'll check online for availability. If anyone else is going to request it, I'll have to order more than one (10 seed) pack.

All that I can say about seed sterility, or not, is "the internet".

It looks like I will be ordering from Pinetree and FEDCO, for herbs and other things. If you search their sites, and find anything you like, let me know.

Actually, after I posted that I realized I never considered the seed saving aspect of it. Those are likely sterile. So, not a great choice for a seed sharing initiative anyway.

I will take a look at Pinetree and FEDCO!

I come here every few days, mostly out of curiosity.

Gary sent me a package of tomato seeds last year with far too many varieties, and along with the sorts I already had only grew out about a dozen of the new ones. As it was, a few people thought I had lost my mind growing about140 tomato plants.

I asked for some peppers and some flowers for this year.

One of my daughters is getting really interested in herbs, and I'm likely going to watch closely for listings for those in the future. I grow a few...including some that don't reliably produce seed here in the north. Basil is easy, wild celery hasn't survived the winter (yet) for me.

I could probably list a ton of things that I am interested in, but not sure about others shared interest.

I do find the concept of growing plants to make fabric dye fascinating. Although, I am not sure I would do that myself I think it is an interesting idea.

Going through Pinetree quickly, this is what I thought was interesting (besides the flowers, I think any of them would be a great choice).

HERBS
Basilico Monstuoso Basil
Corsican Basil
Dolce Fresca Basil
Everleaf Emerald Towers Basil
Mrihani Basil
Osmin Basil
Tree Basil
Compatto Dill
Dukat Strain Dill
Large Leaf Cilantro

PLANTS FOR DYES

Golden Marguerite
Henna
Hibiscus-Roselle
Hopi Red Dye Amaranth
Indigo
