Some tomatoes are doing better than others, but they have a few more weeks to get bigger

I can sometimes plant by now, but not this year. It'll probably be closer to Mother's Day.

It is good to know I am not the only one who can't figure out what my abbreviations represent.

Re: Dawn's Garden 2022
My little mulberry seedling that came up last year looked alive at the beginning of spring, started to bud. Then a cold cold snap. The buds that I saw forming died. Lower buds looked like they could still get leaves, so I waited. Eventually, I gave up decided it was dead. I got on Etsy (I but lots of plants on Etsy), looking for a substitute, but perhaps smaller than a giant full sized mulberry tree, and came across a dwarf everbearing mulberry. Tops out at 10 or 12 feet. Perfect!
2 plants came in the mail today, very nice looking plants. I went to plant them and the original tree is alive! I decided I'd prefer the dwarf trees, so I thought I'd dig it up and pot it and give it to someone who wanted a big tree. I may have killed it digging it up because the root was insane. I got what I could and put it in a pot. If it survives, I'll give it away.
From another Etsy order, I have 2 wild plum trees, 2 Hansen's Bush Cherries, and 2 Saskatoon Serviceberries, coming next week. I'm excited for the serviceberries, because after years of growing at the local community garden, and never paying any attention to the bush growing in the corner, I finally looked at it one day and it was covered in blueberries . But they weren't blueberries. I got confirmation from the people at tomatoville that they wouldn't poison me, and tried them. They were very good! Kinda like a blackberry. I made the best jam from them. Then the next year, they pruned the bush to nothing, and the following year, they bulldozed the whole garden .

You're making some great progress getting your gardens set up! Lots of work, for sure. You can eat the whole elephant... one bite at a time.

Re: Dawn's Garden 2022
I enjoy it this time of year, less so in the hot summer.
Today, I'm working on clearing out the side yard that had my greenhouse last year (cheap plastic one that I gave up on, too much wind here). The side with the greenhouse will get the 3 new raspberry plants I bought yesterday at a garden club plant sale, I paid $4.50 for 3 plants.
The rabbit yard goes across the back fence of that area. She has about a 4 x 16 ft space. Eventually, the raspberry plants will encroach into the rabbit space, but rabbits love raspberry leaves and stems, so that'll be a good thing. 2 raised beds are along the side opposite of where the raspberries will go. I just need to clear enough weeds to plant the raspberries and throw down mulch, then put something down to keep the walkway clearer. Probably more cardboard and hay.

Re: Dawn's Garden 2022
New plan, I'll just mow the weeds in the walkway.
I was cleaning out the weeds growing in the raised beds on the side of the house, and one came with a big seed attached. Looked closer and it was an apricot tree. Then I found another. I filled these beds with kitchen scraps mostly. That one must have had a bunch of apricot pits. I potted them up, not sure what I'll do with them. Plant or give away.

My serviceberries, plums and bush cherries just got here. They're of very nice quality. They're planted already because they're just about to come out of dormancy.

Re: Dawn's Garden 2022
These temperatures are killing me. Most of the time, I can plant out in mid April. They say mothers day here to be on the safe side. That's not even safe this year. Several days next week with lows in the 30s. This is nuts.
At least my tomatoes are being pokey about growing this year

Re: Dawn's Garden 2022
They're recovering, but they're very dark. I think that'll correct itself when I can plant them out. I have spaces for 24 of these, but honestly, I don't need to plant that many. Maybe I'll plant 16. 8 each in 2 beds.

Re: Dawn's Garden 2022
Today, I planted raspberries and got my watering system set up. I've never used one before, but I think it's the way to go. I have it set up to a simple timer. This will ensure that stuff gets watered in the hot summer. I only did half of what I will eventually do, because I need more tubing and stakes. I've decided to only have 2 tomato beds, they'll each have 8 tomato plants. I planted squash in one of the small beds. Peas (it's late for peas, but I wanted to grow some anyway), purple pole beans, lemon cucumbers, green apple cucumbers, and west India burr gherkin. I threw lettuce seeds in the bean and cucumber bed. I had some wasabi radish seeds that were from a free pack, so I threw them in the bed with the squash. Maybe they'll repel the squash bugs a bit, maybe not.
Tomatoes will go in on Saturday, finally. The other small bed will hold my peppers and eggplant. The last big bed will have Rocky Ford cantaloupe and canary melon, there might be a melon I'm forgetting, but at least those 2.

Re: Dawn's Garden 2022
I tried posting earlier, but kept getting an error message when I'd go to post.
Planting day finally came. In my main tomato beds planted 2 each of Midnight Sun, Taiga, GGWT, KBX, Berkeley Tie Dye, then one each of Anna's Multiflora, Stump of the World, Dester, Green Gables, Old German, and Eva Purple Ball.
The tiniest raspberry plant died (I expected it, it was tiny, the others have already grown a lot though), so I had a raspberry sized space with a water line all set up so I put my cherries in there. They're all pretty much planted in the same hole, so we'll see how that goes, it's a bit of an experiment. In there I have KARMA Peach, KARMA Purple Multiflora, Blush and Candy Sweet Icicle, I half expect Blush to take over, it can be a monster. I'll plant a few in the back yard behind the fence. It's pretty much all shade back there, but that shade was the only reason I had any tomatoes at all last year. The summer was brutal, and started early. The only plant that gave me tomatoes outside of that area was Midnight Sun, so it's back with its buddy, Taiga, a new one for me. The watering system will help keep things alive if that happens again. So far, spring is colder than normal, so maybe summer will be better.

Re: Dawn's Garden 2022
I think I might just be done planting .
I got the trellis done for the last bed. It has Anasazi beans, blue lake green beans, Rocky Ford (green flesh) cantaloupe, and canary melons. I don't know how much the melons will climb, but there is room outside of the beds for them to sprawl around the apple tree.
Way on the other side of the yard, I planted sugar baby and moon and stars watermelons, and sugar pie pumpkins.
The watering system works very well. I let it run in the beds before planting so I would know exactly where the water hits, so I knew where to plant. Figured that would be easier than trying to make the drip lines hit the plants.
