Husky red cherry planted in the ground;normally a container type.
Survived a direct hit from the august hurricane and when I forgot to water them.
Surrounded by weeds now,but a few plants are still alive and have green tomatoes.

Production fools were Ivory Pear, Red Hunter, Transparent, and Tsunghigo. Grasa de Tismana produced the most BLT-size fruit. Kukla's Portuguese Beefsteak was close behind. King Kong lived up to its name and Pink Cadillac also a winner.

This may be belong in another thread, but the 3 Big Beef Hybrid that I planted against a southeast facing wall have produced hundreds of good sized, tasty tomatoes. Their height exceeded ten feet before folding over, and they survived an early September snowfall and freeze, although I had to wrangle a large tarp over both sides for some protection. And they are still putting on lots of green ones. I am crossing my fingers with hopes of continued production.

In 2021, these quite impressed me for production:
- Orange Jazz (also very tasty; it was a bit shaded and under disease stress, but it would have really impressed even if those conditions weren't there; it overcame whatever disease was trying to infect it)
- Aunt Ginny's Purple (also very tasty; I did have high hopes for it, though, but it matched my hopes; it was in my historically best-producing spot of the garden, though; I'm growing two plants from it in 2022 in other locations)
- Japanese Black Trifele
- One of my Amana Orange plants (not the other two; I'm growing 11 plants from the prolific plant, in 2022; hopefully it's genetic; Amana Orange and Orange Jazz are my favorite big orange tomatoes for flavor)
- Snacker_B and Snacker_B0 (I'm growing eight plants from Snacker_B, in 2022. Also tastes great, and is all-purpose.)

BSX (grown in 2020) and a cross I have with it (grown in 2021) are also impressive, although they seem to be mostly determinate, as in they produce most of their fruit in a short period of time (at a nice early time, even during the heat). The cross had great taste. I suspect the original one I grew was also a cross, considering the large fruit size.

Usually for something to exceed expectation for me, it needs to have solid production and plant health, not just taste, or at least a steady production during the season.

Most hearts fit in this. They are more productive than one would think looking at them. As long as there's no disease or pest pressure.
Recently, Crimson Crush exceeded my expectation. Early, very good tasting (like really, a top taste, beats most pinks), and late blight resistance was actually as good as advertised.

Maglia Rosa
First time growing it though I grow several of Fred’s others.
Beautiful, productive and flavorful plus good counter life.

Polish
A real monster and wildly prolific. As a workhorse red tomato with excellent flavor it beat all others hands down.

@PlainJane I have seeds for Polish and your review tips me from maybe grow to must grow next season. How many DTM do you think Polish is?

Orange Minsk , some nice uniform fruit production
Cherokee purple so yum yum
Dolly, yes dolly showed me her good looks and fine figure
Stupice, it grew and grew and grew and grew, 6 foot up, 4 foot along and then back again and produced buckets
My indigo crosses, I got two generation s from them
Japanese triefel , tasty but oh so nickable and yes some were nicked
Fred limbaugh, poor production but oh so tasty. It was light and fruity and would have easily got away with being served up as a fruit pudding after dinner...delicious

Japanese Black Trifele, on shear numbers of fruit, not very big, but a great salsa tomato, IMHO.
Hoy, it only knows how to make really big, pink tomatoes. It doesn’t make small or medium ones, just big. Nice flavor and melting texture.
Kellogg’s Breakfast. Would win the beauty contest in my garden if I had one. Most are perfect looking, and really big and I love that Orangy color. Tasty too.

I didn’t grow any I hated, but then I may not be as selective and particular as some of y’all are.

I’ll likely grow Kellogg’s Breakfast again and next season. Japanese Black Trifele, I might skip just to try other ones. Hoy, I might grow again next year if I save some seed or find a source and buy some. I’m still in the grass is greener over there mode as far as tomatoes go or call it tomato wanderlust.

@karstopography, I started seeds end of December, planted out on March 16 & 17th, and got my first ripe fruits around June 5th. There is still fruit on the plant even after the usual battle with early blight.
Only negative thing I can say is it doesn’t have quite the counter life as some others. I have to keep a close eye on them and use quickly once red.

I’ll have to give Hoy a try; several positive reviews have popped up.
It can replace African Queen which is extremely disease prone in my conditions.

A workhorse red?

Polish, Polish C, Polish Ellis, Polish Giant, Polish Heart, etc... are all pink beefsteak and heart tomatoes. The only red Polish varieties that I've trialed are paste/plum types.

Sorry, yes, pink … I tend to grow mainly black, GWR, striped and orange varieties so don’t make a distinction between red and pink when I make out my grow lists each year.

What do you mean by nickable/nicked? If you mean the skin ruptured easily, that's really interesting, because mine were super firm and durable, with no damage whatsoever from rolling around with other tomatoes. I guess they were softer the first time I grew them, though, but I probably let them get extra ripe then.

@Shule I do believe that over the pond that when someone states something got “nicked” that would be synonymous with our words stealing or pilfering.

Yep that is just what was meant. Folks like them and tended to take them without permission.

@Shule @karstopography @wykvlvr Sorry shule, yes I meant stolen. Being somewhat unusual for some folks round here, a tad tasty looking and fitting quite nicely in the hand; they were plucked with minimum effort all being so closely vined close to the wall. They were there one minute and then gone the next.

Incidently, I found the Japanese triefel skins slightly firmer, more likely and more so than any other tomato, to end up with a piece left over caught under my denture, if you know what I mean. So I found the skin a little tougher than most.

@Amateurinawe
No need to apologize. I was just curious.

Yeah, they certainly are easy to harvest. That's one thing I love about JBT (and it's a trait I look for in tomatoes). The calyces are really loose, too. That's no fun someone stole them.

@Shule well, I had my fill of them. Perhaps they took them away and harvested the seed for generations to come....or perhaps not.

Trialing a new to me variety called Puck, seeds from Miss Penn's Mountain Seeds. Puck is supposed to be an early red...
Planted the seeds on 27 April... today noticed 3 of the 4 plants have flower buds. The most advanced buds are on a plant still living in a 9 oz cup! Hope it tastes good...
