The next sized up from the green june beetle is the grape beetle. They come in these two shades, around here. Not sure why.

Before this morning I had seen only two or three hummingbirds at a time. Today many more arrived. They were active very early.

Spring/Summer crops holding on here. Black Beauty Eggplant planted in the spring doesn’t seem to get going strong until later in the summer into the fall. I have about a dozen tomatoes on the two remaining plants. Odds are good for November tomatoes.

Bush beans are looking good, plenty of blooms. I’m leaving the okra on the plants to dry for seed. If I get a surplus, I’m squeezing the excess for the oil.

Yesterday morning I noticed a monarch caterpillar in the "j" shape, and I knew it was possible that it was going to form a chrysalis very soon. So I observed it and got some photos of the transformation taking place. The caterpillar had attached itself to a stem of a Mystic Spires salvia.
