Thank you, I'm glad you like it, in Spain there are many castles and a lot of history, if I remember correctly, it is the country where there are more castles

The cathedral is magnificent! All of the Spanish photos are wonderful and that arch is a work of art.
Here, in this one horse town or anywhere in North America, really, we have no ancient marvels such as those in Spain or the rest of Europe. Our newish city hall looks like a flat walled cement bunker, no art to it at all so it is a treat to see and learn a little about your architectural treasures in Spain.

I grew up in a big city and rarely saw wide open skies. On my first visit to the west coast of this island at the edge of a big beach that faced toward Japan with nothing between here and there I got a bit agoraphobic. I got used to that as I loved the water. A farmer told me I would be back in Delta, a flat place close to the ocean with big skies, too, when he heard I was moving to the island. I take his point but have found plenty of big skies here.
They are not always grey but clouds do make for interest.

Looking the other way, this is the largest mountain in our area. Looks like it has a good snowpack this year. As the crow flies it is about 25 km away but it takes about an hour to get onto it by hi-way. There is a spine of mountains running down the length of Vancouver Island. There are bigger ones. The height of this one is 1,819 m/ 5968 ft.

Did some work in the garden yesterday. Layered clean cardboard, layer of chicken manure, layer of ornamental grass. Getting ready to plant, soon.

Hello everyone, I show you some videos from two years ago, one of them is from the same beach where I have previously published, I published it at the time in another forum, but in case someone has not seen it I think it is worth watching.

Incredible, Nico! That's wonderful to see.
I have something fishy coming up, too. It will soon be the season here.

Well, it really is Spring, at last around here. Herring season has begun. Herring are fished for their roe which is sent to Japan and for pickled herring, of course! I was told this morning that the boats were out last night. I saw a few this morning near the fish plant.

The shoreline comes to life when the herring arrive.

One morning as I was walking into town I saw that the boats were in! A hazy day making the boats seem as if they were floating on air in the distance.

Image

The boats come out in large numbers. There is some controversy over whether we are taking too many. Openings are short and areas are restricted and the fishery is closely monitored with flyovers by fisheries planes etc.

Image

The large boats have aluminum skiffs that go out with nets that get spread in the water then wound in.

Sealions flippers are in the foreground. Everybody's happy and there's plenty to go around.

Oh yes, we DO get snow in east central Georgia sometimes. Not very often but it's fun when it happens. It's kind of magical when it does and people get all excited. The evening news always has shots of kids making little snowmen and making the requisite angels on the ground.

Here are some pics from around the place when we had a nice little snow fall back in February 2010. Out in the country it's so still and beautiful. I got out there early to take these, knowing it wouldn't last long. By lunch, half of it had melted away and by 4pm every trace of snow was gone.

I go on walks all over my town and like to take pictures of interesting stuff. This is a house in a co-housing development where homes are full sized and separate but they are very close to each other. I like this terrace garden that someone made.

There is a rail trail near my house and during a recent high wind storm, there were numerous fallen trees that needed to be cleaned up.

My mini hoop house protecting my herb garden especially the rosemary plants. They all survived this winter.

I’m building another shed at my house and and getting some design ideas from this one. I like the small shed dormer in the front and will do something similar for mine.

One of the many conservation lands in my town. I like to incorporate hiking those trails on my walks.

A house that I admire that’s near mine. I like the wood shingle roof, copper gutters, and tasteful colors for the siding and trim.

Great reflection!
And I like your summer kitchen better than mine in the garage! Anything to keep the heat out of the house in summer.

You nailed it.
Not everything is flowers and birds.
Not that I don't like the pictures because I surely do.
It's called random images so the to me means a grab bag of just about anything.
Since I was raised up and live in the natural beauty of nature far away from any big city they seem to hold an interest for me.
Another thing of irony is this picture was taken right next to the university of Texas.
It is in the background.
It is also where you will find some of the most mentally ill homeless in Austin.
It has been that way for many years.
Most are living in another reality far beyond anything we can imagine.
Some walking around yelling and screaming at no one we can see.
What draws them to this place of education?
Could they have once went to school there?
Could they have once been a professor?
Could they have finally discovered the secrets of the universe and being to much to handle gone completely insane.

worth1 The campus has always or at least since the 1980s attracted homeless that outwardly appear to be off their rocker, interesting ideas about the genesis of their situation.

I lived at the corner of 21st and Nueces so perhaps you are standing up above where I once lived. One place was on the northwest side for a few months in a tiny, older, very dark brown wood (this was in the 1980s) apartment complex, then moved across 21st to the Southwest corner in a then new U shaped small apartment building. Back then as I remember things, there were still a number of single family dwellings on Nueces around 21st and no high rises in that immediate area other than Dobie. I biked everywhere and it was easy to get anywhere I needed to on foot or on my fat tire bike.

I then moved over to Manor road several blocks east of the Campus after living west of campus and that east side was a decidedly different, less affluent area. Wonder what that neighborhood is like now?
