Re: Moving indoor

I have two Rooster Spur pepper plants in a container that I plan on overwintering inside this year. I'm also planning to try a couple of micro dwarf tomato plants inside this winter. I'm considering a couple of varieties from Bunny Hop Seeds, Chibikko, and Birdie Rouge. https://heritageseedmarket.co...

Re: Stink bugs wreaking havoc on bell peppers

Your in Alabama? Cool, Roll Tide! Anyway...try a spray bottle of plain water with a heaping tsp of Dawn dishwashing detergent mixed in. Try to actually spray the little buggers with it. This simple solution will kill/deter most insects, the good ones also, so use sparingly! Let us know how it works!

Re: Hybrids for hobbyists

Interesting topic, Barmaley ... I grow hybrids for their production and disease (nematode) resistance, mainly Big Beef and Roman Warrior. We can/freeze a LOT of tomatoes for later use, and for salsa. Both these hybrids are great for our purposes. I try to grow 5-8 different OP varieties every year, ...

Re: Collected Tomato Seeds Not Fermenting...

Yup, I agree wit @Bower ...

I put about half an inch of filtered water in the glass, then add the seeds/juice/gel and cover with a napkin...They are usually good to go in 3-4 days.

Yup, I let mine get ripe to the point that they get wrinkly and are starting to dry on the vine, but that's just me...I let them dry for about 2 weeks before I bag em. btw, I have plenty of seeds for Prairie Spice , a pepper that we have been growing out over on another forum, if anyone would like s...

Re: Tomato Update Time

What was your opinion of Bella Rosa, taste-wise? Do you like it better than other well known hybrids like Better Boy or Big Beef? I'm curious about that, too. A quick googling says it's determinate, with good disease resistance (but not to 'todes...?) How was its productivity? Also, what are your r...

Re: A Hybrid That Is Better Than Big Beef

The title of this thread got my hackles up immediately. Big Beef is absolutely the best all around tomato that I have ever grown, so we'll see.... BUT...Mountain Rouge looks pretty impressive. I'll check it out!

Re: Single Stem , double , or cage

20200310_144656 (2)_LI.jpg I use 5 ft CRW cages elevated on 3 T-posts, for a total height of 7 ft. I put 3 plants around the outside of each cage, and TRY to keep them to no more than 2 stems. Currently, my Big Beef are over 8 ft and starting to flop over the top of the cages... *CRW=concrete reinf...

I feel your pain and frustration, but please don't let go of your garden!! I am considered one of those "essential workers", so I've been at work pretty much this entire year, but my Tomato & Pepper Patches are my refuge. They are my places of peace and solace where masks and social distancing are u...

Excellent!! What are the hearts? I grew Pruden's Purple for the 1st time this year. I agree, it's a definite keeper!! Big Beef...Can't say enough good things about that one! I got none as large as yours, but more than a few in the 12-15 oz range. It's hands down the best overall tomato I've ever gro...
