I just learned of Remy's passing. Condolences to her friends and family. She was a great person and will be very much missed by me and many others who's lives she touched.

Re: Powdery mildew advice please

I use the milk spray for powdery mildew. The recipe I found called for 1 part milk 9 parts water. That mix wasn't effective for me so I bumped it up to 3 parts milk 7 parts water. Be sure to spray the stems and under the leaves as well as the tops. I've also used hydrogen peroxide spray (6TBSP per g...

Re: Greens and Lettuces in Kiddie Swimming Pool

Peach Faced love birds have naturalized here. They love the seed heads on the sunflowers.
The kiddie pool lettuce bed was successful and I may do it again next winter, but will plant fewer seeds, it was a little too densely planted.

Re: First post......garden lost to herbicide

AZ......pretty sure I saw the video you are talking about, and I believe aminopyralid (or similar) is what has contaminated my garden. I will post results of my experiments soon. I have tomatoes and beans planted in the suspect materials. Looking forward to the results of your experiment, and sorry...

Re: First post......garden lost to herbicide

Welcome to the Junction! Steve73 I lost all of my melons to herbicide drift year before last, I understand the frustration. One of the youtube channels I watch lost his tomatoes last year due to hay he brought in for mulch in a raised bed. It was contaminated (he believes) with aminopyralid herbicid...

Re: Candy

I've grown Candy from sets in the past. This is my first year to try them from seed. They are just starting to sprout now. I'll plant them late summer, or that's the plan at this point. So late Summer is September? What is the temperature in AZ then? Then the onions bulb up around winter solstice? ...

I never knew about it either. I just made sure the root side was down. :-) I am going to try Tom's method in the Fall and see how it works out for me.
Thank you for the link. I haven't been over to the sister-station in a while.

Re: Candy

Getting ready to plant a few hundred onion plants, I bought 2 types, Candy and Walla Walla... I planted a lot of garlic for years, but I've not grown many onions. Any tips? I plant onion seeds on moist seed starting mix, then cover very lightly with more seed starting mix. Put them under lights. I ...

And to compound the problem, we in the East are being hit with a new invasive insect, the Spotted Lantern Fly. There are no good organic controls and many people are using systemic insecticides and also all kinds of sprays.
Oh no, sounds like a nasty bug. I will look it up and read more about it.

Re: Herbicides

I lost my cantaloupes 2 years ago due to herbicide drift, 2-4D most likely. I thought they had some weird disease. Had no idea about herbicide drift and how it can travel half a mile or more in some situations. A gardener I watch on You Tube lost his tomato crop to Grazon (he suspects) last year. He...
