Re: A Hybrid That Is Better Than Big Beef

I am glad to hear that this tomato has your approval. UW Wisconsin Madison did an interesting trial that included this tomato. Here is the summary: https://varietytrials.eorganic.info/sit ... ort%20.pdf

Re: Deer Deterrent

I know I wouldn't want to eat tomato plants if they had cumin on them. It's bitter stuff. The deer never bother my tomato plants but they do like beans, sweet potatoes and corn. The deer here eat the tomatoes, pepper too. Last year I planted 28 of them and only harvested one little Black Cherry tom...

Re: Deer Deterrent

I think so. I have one living under my deck and it leaves everything alone since I have used this. One word of caution is that if you use it with the Wilt Pruf, you need to wash the veggies well before eating them to get the taste off.

worth1 I'm glad that it went well. Don't over do it for the next few days. Your brain may not be functioning normally until your next surgery and you may have some confusion. It is hard for it to adjust to seeing with one very good eye and one that is on the blink. This will pass once the other eye...

Re: Eggplant Fries

SQWIB Thanks so much for posting this. My eggplants are coming in as well and I need to find a way to use them. My Dr. is after me to cut down on the salt and the fats so I will be trying this in the air fryer tonight. The air fryer has become one of my new best friends. Foods come out crispy with ...

Re: Using alfalfa pellets for fertilizer

I have never taken the time to make alfalfa tea but I have been known to use the pellets in the spring as a soil amendment. Be careful not to use them too thickly as they do heat up in a hurry and you don't want to burn your young plants. The worms do seem to love them too.

ponyexpress I feel for you! With those so low on your strawberry plants. That is a challenge for sure. If it were me, I would consider covering the strawberries to save my back from going out. I sure hope that the Asiatic Beetles don't find me. Between those and the Japanese Beetles I would have a ...

Re: How's Your Insect Pressure?

The Japanese Beetles are fierce this year. I let a few go for a swim. 20200731_135708.jpg Nice! Is this the result of hand picking them? Their first reaction is to drop when threatened so I just put the container under them and take my other hand to shake a stem or flick them with my finger. In the...

Re: Estler's Mortgage Lifter

Yes Carolyn did recommend saving seed from a few different tomatoes just in case one may be crossed. She also suggested that we collect from the earliest fruit because the number of bees flying was less then thus less chance of cross pollination from them.
