Re: Thrips are killing my Mortgage Lifters

I leave the soap on for about 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off. The soap suffocates the bugs and once it is dry it is no longer needed. I also do this while the sun is low, either early am or before dusk so as not to cause a sunburn on the plants.

Re: Mid Season Impressions

No there is no way to tell exactly which one it is that you have. According to Tatianna's Tomatobase there are 15 different strains of Mortgage Lifter. Not all of them are related to one another either. Here is a link so that you can see for yourself and perhaps you can guess at which one it is that...

Re: got some new plants...?!?!

You have gotten some excellent advise so I will not address all of your questions, as I think you have received some good answers. At this point my biggest concern would be using that soil in those containers. A garden is only as good as it's soil. You build a garden from the ground up. If you have ...

I do hope that your hair looks better than hers. She needed a cut and had to do it herself. I too am cutting my own hair and it will be whatever way it comes out. I don't have eyes on the back of my head so it's a problem for sure. I will not go out without a mask and gloves and then only once every...

Re: The Dawg Patch

I sure do understand the challenges of trying to garden with the deer around. Last year I got to harvest one lonely Black Cherry tomato. This year I am trying the Community Garden adventure. I like the bucket idea.

Good for you! They need full sun to bright filtered light. They are heavy feeders, so do fertilize them a few times during the growing season if you are wanting them to bloom for you the following year.

Re: JD's Special C-Tex

Thanks for the great review of this tomato. It is in my garden this year for the first time and I can not wait to try it. I did start about 10 plants of it many years ago but ended up giving them all away and sadly did not keep one for my self. Hopefully all will go well and I will get to try this w...

@AKgardener may I suggest that you avoid buying tomatoes from Walmart and find a local grower or start seeds yourself. Buying from some of these big box stores is asking for disaster.

Re: Freezing Tomatoes

I always freeze my tomatoes that I am going to use for cooking. It's just too hot in the summer to reduce these for sauce but something that I will gladly do come winter to help keep the house warm and more humid. Roma's I just place in a bag and put in the freezer. The others, some I blanch and pee...

Re: How in the world did you decide on your grow list?

You can't use the ebt card at greenhouses and other stores like agway or tractor supply either. It isn't even on the card menu when you try to swipe the card. Your EBT card is only good at food stores such a groceries and big box stores (there are others and it will be posted on the door). If those...
