Re: How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting you?

I wonder if people new to canning will do it right. I hope so there is a lot of information on line videos and such. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation as well, with people not following established guidelines. Hopefully new canners, as well as more experienced ones, spend some time re...

Hopefully Martin, @Paquebot, will respond with some of his ideas about garlic planting. Linked below is one way I am going to try this Fall.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.

When I was still working and had to replace required safety shoes, Red Wing was my choice as well. Better made, they had large sizes with narrow widths and they fit well from the start. And I purchased hiking boots made by them when I was still an avid backpacker. I was surprised to find that they o...

Re: How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting you?

@Sue_CTI haven't yet, but I am taking my wife for surgery in the morning, so I will have some time to talk in person with someone at that hospital.

Re: Total loss

MissS , anymore what has happened seems to be the norm rather than the exception. Too bad you can't set up one of those jungle nets that would snare the 2 legged thieves and suspend them in the air until the local authorities could whisk them off. Or even better, setting up a catapult that would sl...

Re: How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting you?

@Sue_CT Thanks for the information. My first thought after talking with my wife was that someone had gotten information about her upcoming test and was trying to scam her into some sort of payment. I am going to follow up with the hospital tomorrow to find out just what is going on.

@brownrexx If I had a co-pay and a discount was offered by paying up front, I would do exactly as you did.

Re: How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting you?

I was required to have a Covid test prior to my cataract surgery in June. My co-pay was zero but I think that my Medicare Advantage plan was billed about $200. The last time I had anything done in a hospital I was required to pay something upfront. I have not experienced having to pay anything upfr...

Re: How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting you?

The billing department indicated that the $1000 was for the procedure that was being done today, which only involved the Covid-19 test. We have never had to provide upfront money to either of the two hospitals here in the last 18 months. But maybe the hospitals are getting stiffed by other patients ...

Re: How is the COVID-19 pandemic affecting you?

My wife is slated for foot surgery Friday and was required to have a Covid-19 test at the hospital today. Yesterday, she received a call from their billing department stating that she needed to pay $1000 upfront before being administered the test. My wife is on Medicare, but we also have a supplemen...

JRinPA , besides myself, I am sure there are others who would be interested in the recipe if you can find it. Bower , when you mention leaving the final product in the oven for liquid to evaporate, is that with the door closed or open? I am interested in trying this and later running it through a f...

Re: How's your weather?

Yes, it is unusual all over the country. The snow we got yesterday was the earliest September snowfall in 122 years, with the lowest low and high temperatures for the date. Hard to believe it was 103 degrees on Sunday. Water content was at least 2 inches between the rain and snow, which exceeded our...

Re: How's your weather?

Not so nice here...presently 33 degrees and light snow still falling. I don't have a lot of hope for anything that I couldn't cover, as there is a few inches of snow on everything. I had a small patch of corn that was just starting to tassel that is laying down covered with snow and slush. Tomorrow ...

Ginger2778 Barb_FL Thanks, with any luck, it will stay rain and not get too cold. I have plenty of picked jalapeños and almost ripe habanero's which would like a few tomatoes to continue canning and fresh eating. loulac I picked the tomatoes before they were fully mature to allow them to ripen in t...

Re: Estler's Mortgage Lifter

EdieJ It's 42 degrees right now, after being in the low 90's yesterday about this time. Picked as many EML's that I could that were showing some color and hope we don't get a heavy frost tomorrow morning. Snow is expected to start falling this evening, so I am going to try to cover the plants to mi...
