Re: Giant ground cherries existed!

I have been growing groundcherries for several years. Aunt Molly’s is a good prolific one which produces nice sweet berries. They make awesome pies. From Seed Savers I got one called Loewe family, which were also excellent. This year I got seeds from larger ones picked up in Germany. They grew reall...

Re: Patti's 2022 'Mater Adventure

Grew both DB and Rosedale this year. DB was super prolific but had problems with BER on Rosedale so lost a lot of potentially great tomatoes. Didn’t like the Earthbox, I guess. Next year will be back to bales but needed to isolate to save seeds. But the few I got were good. Really set a lot of tomat...

Re: pole bean report from da nort

First year Monte Gusto has failed me. Yellow beans are my favorite but had to be satisfied with flat green this year! Fortex is a great bean as well but somehow lean towards Emerite. But they failed too! Getting something is better than nothing. Glad some of you did really well!

Re: pole bean report from da nort

I had a difficult summer with my pole beans. Three out of 4 varieties either died or never produced a bean. All are pre sprouted in cups and then planted when tall enough. This has worked well for years Emerite started out fine and then some seemed to get some disease and dry up. Others were eaten o...

Re: Galactic Magic Seeds

Made a list of wants from there for 2023 but never ordered. Has anyone tried Grandma Oliver’s Chocolate? Sounds good and would trade if good and site is no longer available. Agree one should not ban a site if they have turned themselves around and are now reliable. Interested in more input on hopefu...

Re: late start this year

Things do seem later this year in terms of ripening. Think I chose varieties well in terms of early, mid and late. Finally have gotten a good crop of ripe but there are still several varieties full of tomatoes with not one ripe yet. As early ones begin to die back due to our lack of water it is nice...

Re: Tomato Seeds Fermenting On Windowsill

Like the coffee filter idea. Now I use paper towels to cover and any lid I can find from food cups like yogurt tops for drying. Plates need to be coated or seeds stick to the regular paper plates. They don’t stick to plastic lids.

Wow! Haven’t grown Marizol Bratka for several years. Your picture inspires me to maybe include it again next year! Seeds are from 2013 so should see how viable they are and save new ones!

Not a good ad for Purple Cow! Could too much blood meal affect the plants? Will be interested to hear what new ones you are growing and your opinions! Hope they all do well!

Re: What are the chances??? Enstrina tomato

I think you are looking for Esterina rather than Enstrina unless this is just a variety I am unfamiliar with. But Esterina is also yellow and a favorite of mine. I got my seeds from Fedco a couple of years ago. Anyway despite being clearly the wrong variety how do these taste?

Re: Danged &%$#@+(^$ Critters!

Just got back from a garden trip in England to find all my edamame (soy) plants eaten to the ground. They are groundhog heaven but I have not seen the critter yet. Finally found where it got in to the other big veggie garden. It literally has a tunnel from the barn to under the garden shed by the ga...

Re: Battle of the small breeders

Am growing both Rosedale and DB this year too. Tried last year but Rosedale was weak and DB died after producing a few tomatoes. Never tried them side by side. This year have tons of tomatoes on both but Rosedale is suffering from BER. It’s in a small Earthbox and I am learning this is not an unusua...
