Perfect conditions lately, and the nasturtiums are loving it.

Those are nice! Do yours attract any pollinators?

I would love to plant some to eat, but I have heard so much about thier attracting aphisd and such I never have. Is there any way to prevent all the issues with them? These look nice and healthy.

Those nasturtiums do look good!
Mine will often get black aphids. Then, I consider the nasturtiums to be trap plants and get rid of them. Last year a neighbour was surprised at my nasturtiums growing entwined with broad beans and salvias because those nasturtiums had no aphids as hers did. I think it was due to their being partly hidden among the other plants.

Oddly enough I’ve never seen aphids on my nasturtiums, and I’ve grown them for years.
They aren’t a bee attraction either, just edible and pretty.

I grow Nasturtiums in the winter. I've not had any pest issues with them. When the high heat rolls in about April/May the die. I've not seen pollinators visiting them either. I do get aphids on kale and sometimes lettuce during the early Spring.

Yes, here in N. Florida the nasturtiums will fade away in May.
But ... then Basil will take over!

Wow, I’ve never seen our hummers show the slightest interest in them. Go figure!

Same here, the Basil and Zinnias really take off when it gets toasty. :-)

I plant Nasturtiums around Christmas. Cover if these is a freeze warning. They bloom mid March to the end of April. In fact I am pulling most of them today. Great brightener for Spring,

I’ve pulled some but others in more shade are still doing well. Lots of seeds sprouting around where they were... transplanting as I get time.

five of six seeds i planted have come up, and are growing in a six cell pack.
literature says they don't like to be transplanted, but i'm doing it anyway within
the next day or so. just an experiment. i like adding the blossoms to a summer salad.
brightens the dish up a bit.

I like the sweet, tiny drop of nectar in the pointed end of the flower. I've read that the leaves pack a lot of vitamin C but should not be eaten a lot. Great peppery nibbles in the garden. I've seen hummingbirds snacking on the blossoms, too. It's a good year when the black aphids don't find them.

I’ve transplanted them lots of times; no issues.

Last year was the first time I started the variegated nasturtiums, and I really liked them, the cheap Wal-mart seeds. They didn’t last the whole summer though. This year since I was already ordering from Swallowtail Seeds I added Spotty Dotty to my cart. I’m hoping to get seeds, so maybe if I plant them in part shade they will last the whole summer.

I have not had aphid problems on mine.
