I need 27.6 gallons of general-purpose houseplant potting soil. Or about 4 cubic feet.

What do you recommend?
Location: SW Idaho, USA
Climate: BSk
USDA hardiness zone: 6
Elevation: 2,260 feet

Agreed on the pro mix. There are many brands. I can usually find it at menards.

I too use the all purpose Pro-Mix from Menards. $15 for a 2 cu. ft. bale. I cut in equal parts of Sun Grow peat and big chunk perlite. This mix is used for germination to pot up. No wetting agents, no dolomite, no ferts. A friend uses Sun Grow Pro for his retail greenhouses. His water source is very hard and his plants do best in this mix. He gets many pallets of the 3.8 cu. ft. bale. This does have dolomite and wetting agents. I grab a couple bales every year and use for flower containers, etc. This is the best , right out of the bag mix, that I've used. Stays in good shape through the growing season and never gets cakey.

We can’t get promix down here now.Resorting to ricehulls, coarse vermiculite, lamberts peat moss. One bale of lamberts,25 lbs of ricehulls, half bag of vermiculite (15 lbs.)Makes a nice friable mixture for seeds starting to final container.Myl last batch of promix had way too many branches, bits of plastics. Then the hornworms from hell, green and brown.
