Wow, those sure are some nice taties! I've got storage issues too. No cellar, no storm shelter so they get stored in the house in the coolest closet which is still about 70-73 degrees. I might try leaving some in the ground with a bale of straw on top just to see how that goes. Kind of like the old timey clamp.

Pmcg, your basement looks a lot like my root cellar, except no paint and a chip rock floor.
I finally got my order in, and we'll be trying out Agria, Citadel, Nicola, German Butterball, Red Gold, CandyCane and All Red. The only fingerling I could get was Bellanita - they sold out of the others I wanted. We'll see what else we can source locally when the time comes. Shipping on these was more than the spuds! But as Mom said, there's no point in growing potatoes unless they're the ones you really like. So hopefully some of these will be the ones. ;)

my basement turns out to be good storage area for potatoes.
unheated, its about 45 degrees during the dead of winter.
humidity is in the 50s percent.
for outside storage, i knew a guy that dug a hole in the ground big enough
to fit a trash can he stored potatoes in. the can protected the potatoes from
varmints. lid on top with something to weight it down. a stake to mark location
in the event of snow.
my fingerlings are a mix of rose finn apple, french fingerling,
and maybe russian banana, not for sure as they came from local growers.

one potato that i like is a really, really purple potato i got from a local
seed saver. not sure if it qualifies as a fingerling or not. it looks like the picture
of magic molly in jungs catalog. it has small dimples on it similar to anna cheeka ozette
that i used to grow but, gave up due to lack of production. this potato is a brilliant solid
purple all the way through. good flavor, my wife says it is starchy.

growing fingerlings, i always seem to miss some when i dig them in the fall. as a result, i'll
have potatoes coming up in various spots in the garden the following year.

Sounds perfect for seèd potatoes. My parents had a basement but a small area was taller concrete walls, filled with dirt. That's where they storaged the potatoes.
Rose Finn Apple, Banana, French Fingerling are excellent
For Purple I'm growing Magic Molly ( they are big and are tasty! And are purple skin and purple flesh)
The other is Purple Peruvian ( I planted a little late last year, they were kinda "knobby" purple skin white flesh, tasted good!)
A red is a good one... Papa Cacho ( big for a fingerling and can be up to 8" to 10" long)
Pinto Gold, not a fingerling I planted a lot of them, a really good eater!

another fingerling i have that i didn't mention, is amarosa, it has a bold red color skin,
and the flesh is diffused with a light reddish purple color. i got a small sample from our
local seed saver friend last year. i like it.
i plan on growing several more this year. good tasting, and a real eye catcher.

That's a great potato patch! ;) I bet you can find a home for your extra seed potatoes really easily, if you don't want to eat them... seems all kinds of seed is becoming scarce as everyone jumps on the food panic and turning to garden.

I just read in Michigan, essential things were alcohol, pot and lottery tickets but garden seeds were not essential so they are illegal to sell... What?

The only fun thing they banned here are the breakopen lottery tickets. Garden seeds are a go, at least mail order, the local shops are closed... but watch out for the post office - they didn't sort a package for two whole weeks. I finally got one little package of seeds on Thursday though. Started Celeriac today :). Got Mokum carrot seed and hoping to get a few containers of quick baby carrots on the go. Other packages are still in limbo....

I guess your garlic will be up soon if not already? One of my beds is now bare but still surrounded by snowbanks.

The potatoes have sprouted but it got to 29 degrees this morning, it should get around 60 this afternoon, getting ready to till the tomato and pepper garden.

Garlic looking awesome! Can't believe the forecast we're getting a dump of snow every two days starting tomorrow. Just dreaming to see the sprouts...

I have 10 double rows that are around 40' long each... I did a test yesterday and dug 4' of a row of Rose Finn Apple, the potatoes weighed over 10#, so a row will probably bring over 100#. It looks like over 1000# total... yikes! I'll be dead digging them all!
