Re: Mangoes
We never wait for fruit drop, if it drops there are unfavorable changes in the fruit quality. We pick af mature unripe with a fruit picker we got online. It telescopes from about 10 feet to about 25 feet. That plus a ladder gets us to almost all of them. The squirrels and birds get a lot too. The unripefruit ripens beautifully if put into a closed paper bag and left until it colors up.

Re: Mangoes
Marsha, Have you picked any of the Kent's yet? I have some with great coloring, not huge like they normally get but they look ready. They are really pink and pretty; until Sunday we didn't have any rain in way over a month. This would be super early as I don't think I usually get them until July. I have most of my first wave of blooms get fried in late January (that was super early too) , but some must have made fruit. The tree is dropping mangos now (as it usually does).
Are mangos like tomatoes, in once it colors, it doesn't get larger.

Re: Mangoes
Yes, I picked 2 way undersized, just to ripen for me, but none of mine are ready yet. This tree actually bloomed and set tons of fruit in December so its early if it bloomed in Feb or March, but not so much for a January pannicle set.yes if they get full color, they are finished.
My Kent tree is about 6 weeks ahead of it's usual schedule, fruit are almost never this large this early. Loving it because not too many tomatoes for me anymore.

Re: Mangoes
My mango trees progress. Kent starting to droop under the weight of the mangoes Carrie producing really well, plus new growth flushing, Nam Doc Mai Siatung also growing large and this week covered in new flushes, very healthy tree. Last is my Lemon Zest mango, planted 4 months ago, thriving!

Re: Mangoes
You probably have beautiful berries, and apples, and stone fruit. Not to mention you can actually dress up and not be too hot. South Florida is just 2 seasons, hot and rainy, and less hot and rain. Thank you for the nice compliment.

Re: Mangoes
Really nice list of mangoes. I have never tasted most of them you are fortunate. We are eating Kents, and a few Carries are starting to come in.I still like Kent best, we will see how they do in a few weeks.
What's your favorite?

Re: Mangoes
The house smells yummy, dehydrating 9 trays of Rosigold Fairchild and U.Betty. It smells like tropical cotton candy.

Re: Mangoes
I've been in the tropics so many times, but never saw a Kent loaded like yours. You must do something extremely well! Congrats!

Re: Mangoes
Thanks! I cast some citrus mango avocado fertilizer out from the base to the drip line once per year. That's about it. I trim it every other year after it finishes fruiting too, because Kent can get 50 feet tall!
