I think I've mentioned the volunteer flower mix that keeps self-seeding. Right now it's probably at it's max blooming.

Among the black eyed susans I found two variations this year.

Maybe they're actually different and just late to the party but I've not seen these in the past three years as I watch for things like this. A marker has been tied around each stem for later seed collection. It will be interesting to see if, once replanted, they'll come back as they are or revert to the original.

Lovely. It will be interesting to see what they grow into next year.

They look almost like Gallardia. I had one volunteer up in Ohio and I brought seeds with me when we moved here but haven't found a good place to plant them yet.

Huh. Those have some astonishing similarities with sunflowers.

My mom had a really pretty rudbeckia that she bought a couple of years ago, and didn't survive the winter. Now two years later she finds a group of seedlings that... just might be something different. No flowers yet but the stems are really red at the base, so they are not the usual black eyed susans (which survive everything!). Maybe those seeds have a long dormancy or something?
Either way, gorgeous flowers, GoDawgs! :)
