Start of winter in HI

Got my winter tomatoes in containers under the eaves where I can control the amount of water they get. From L to R: Emerald Apple, Isis Candy, Green Doctors, KBX. The two cherries have already set fruit and are looking happy.

My summer 14 plants are down to three lonely soldiers, Brandy Boy, KBX, and Aunt Rubys German Green. Battling the Septoria since we started getting some rain, but still getting fruits which makes me happy.

Also got some new “Sugarloaf” variety pineapple slips, so going to have a go at doing those with organic fertilizer, which is new to me.

Before I killed my Juliet plant I had enough to do another jar of sun drieds which turned out really well. Ridiculously cute helper was helping too. And one pic of my Hawaiian chili pepper, which no matter how brutally I prune it, just keeps coming back healthier and happier.

Great pics. That chili pepper plant is magnificent.

Ugh, I just got home from arctic Alaska and the weather up there had been dipping into the high 20s. At home we’re still 80s and super humid. The wind died yesterday and it was just brutal. But still, I guess compared to much of the country I am grateful!

sure beats our start to winter. nothing but rain/snow wintry mix for the next week
or so. highs won't be getting out of the 40s. won't be seeing much of the sun for awhile.

I didn't realize that you got such high humidity. I have only been to Hawaii one time and it was around Thanksgiving several years ago. The weather was warm and perfect.

Mid winter update, Isis Candy and Green Doctors failed. Down to two plants, KBX and Emerald Apple are both doing pretty well. Got some powdery mildew I’ve been fighting plus the usual leaf miners. When is summer coming?!?!

Mark, you're doing amazing! I've heard how hard it is to grow toms in Hawaii. Here's to your success! :D

End of winter post. My Emerald Apple and KBX are getting a little long in the tooth, these should be the last few tomatoes before I kill the plants. Good news is they almost made it until the summer fruits were ripe (9 months) so I have no complaints.

9 months! Oh how I envy you! I get to enjoy my tomatoes for 2 months of the year. So now I know where this years vacation is going to be.

Come on down! The leafminers, nematodes, stinkbugs, and aphids won’t bother you, just the plants. I’d offer my guest bedroom but it’s about to be occupied by a squallerin young one.
