I had to renew my license in April, for another 4 years, and for the first time ever, I was allowed to do it online. Of course, all states are different now, but NJ just used my old photo, from the last visit - as long as I hadn't moved since the last time, it was allowed.

Here in CA you are allowed to drive with an expired license up to a certain date due to the offices all being closed. They are just opening up some DMVs recently but allowing very limited number of people with previous appts only. So they are being lenient about expired licenses if they expired or are expiring for a good part of this year. And I hear the deadline for getting a Real ID has been postponed till next year if you wanted that.

DMV is closed, why everybody is using AAA
$25 late fee no excuses
A moot point for me in these times, but doctors require a valid license and insurance card on 1st visits
or if their info is old.

My wife and I had to renew our licenses last year. In Texas, you are required to come in every five years for a new photo on your license. We tried every DMV office in our area. They were all packed with people standing in line. The shortest estimated wait time was four hours. A friend told us the DMV had recently opened a new office / testing center in a small town about thirty miles from us. We drove over and completed everything in about twenty minutes. It's good to have friends.

AAA had lines outside, the guy says the telephone number of the place just goes around in circles.
You never get to talk to a human.
I took off.

AAA? you don't use the license bureau? AAA as in the auto association? I wish we could do something other than stand in line at the license bureau. They need longer hours to make up for being closed for 3 months. I can't be there in the hours they are open. mine is expired. I need to pay someone to "be me" while I am there. I have Sunday off.

I assume after you sit down and get the picture taken they have to sterilize everything.
they should just take the picture standing up.

Crazy I have a wee Place here in town I go to.
On line every other renewal I think.
I like the picture on mine now.
Look like an old biker hippie.
I think I can do mine on line in 22 because I had to go in person the last time.

Somebody said DMV opened today.
I tried online, they are booked for the next 60 days and I couldn't make any appointment.
They should just use my old pic age enhanced,if we can call it enhanced at my age.
They have the technology.

If you don't want or need a Real ID, then you should be able to renew the old fashioned way via mail. That's what my husband did. He filled out the renewal form that came in the mail & included a check. Heck we haven't used a check in months
Of course the above wouldn't apply to folks who need to retake a test.

Years ago they used to have a DMV bus that went around just for photo licenses.
For people that couldn't get out to the DMV office.
They did away with that after state budget cutbacks.
The paperwork states you have to show up in person.

I had to send email to AAA complaining.
I got an email with a local phone number to call.
The earliest appointment was august 7th.
90 day grace period for expired licenses.
People that expire in august can do it all by mail.

People that expire in August won't be needing a licence and might want to save the fee.

Woman ahead of me smiled for the camera then wanted to see what it looked like.
I never smile for a drivers license or cops.

I had some inspections to do on the Texas DPS safety systems in Austin.
Tried to ask the information guy and he jumped me out and told me to get in the back of the line and wait my turn.
But.
Get in the back of the line like I said.
45 minutes or so later it's my turn.
Okay now sir what do you need he asked, smugly staring at me as though I was a lowly line jumper.
I told him I'm here to do the annual inspection on the Fire Alarm system and change out the exit sign batteries.
You should have seen the look on his face, priceless.
