Howdy from Texas!

Hello Everyone,
Wanted to introduce myself. My name is Emmie C. and I live in Round Rock, Texas, zone 8B, just a bit north east of Austin. I've been lurking over on Tomatoville for the past 8 months, but some goofy problem with my sign up keeps me from posting or seeing photos there. I really enjoyed reading all the wealth of information from folks, so another member there pointed me here. I've been gardening only since about 2013 and love growing tomatoes and peppers and okra. But to be honest the only thing I'm really good at growing is the okra LOL. I have been struggling growing tomatoes successfully, especially heirlooms. I grew black cherry for the very first time last year and wow, that little tomato knocked my socks off ! I found information on the dwarf tomato project and had started some in the fall hoping we would have a mild fall/early winter but got our first freeze the middle of October. So no tomatoes from them yet, However I left the plants out and I have been really impressed with those dwarf tomatoes. While they are not putting out fruit, they Have survived through more than half a dozen freezes and the Mahogony plant is still putting on flowers. I also for the first time started growing micro dwarf tomatoes and I am really excited to be helping Dan Follet grow out some of his crosses. Gardening is such a great activity and i so enjoy learning from others and sharing what I have learned so I''m very excited to be a part of this forum. Looking forward to sharing the growing season with you all.

Go to Bloomers in Elgin at least once. :)
Then go in the big hoop house they have lots of tomato plants.
Not as big as I would like and not all the stuff we read about hear but they have plants.
Lots of plants of all kinds not just tomatoes.
Take 79 to Hutto take 1660 to 95 then to Elgin, nice weekend drive through corn and cotton country.
I remember when Round Rock was goat pasture.

You know I have never been to Bloomers. I will make it a point to go this year. I'm familiar with that area out around 1660 and 95, and I agree it would be a lovely drive. A good tonic for the middle of February. Hah, goat pasture, yep not much of that left anymore, but still a few corn fields out on the prairie. :D
