Old homemade SIP parts

I had a 6 year old SIP, made from a 14 gal Rubbermaid tub, become very brittle (yet the other 14 gal is not nearly as bad, and the 18 gal Rubbermaids are still in perfect shape, some older), and I used it one last time last season, and the other day, I scooped all the mix out of it, to use in a raised bed. I left it uncovered this winter, knowing I would do this, and it was even more brittle. But the insides of the SIP are in perfect condition! The pvc pipes and the cable ties, that held them in place, the "shelf" for the mix, and the screens, were not least bit decomposed. So it's obviously the sun that does the damage, not the water and chemicals. I'll be able to re-use these, in something.

I couldn't believe that this was all the roots that built up here after 6 years!
