Thunder storms and rains last night.
Slept like a baby.

Winter here has been drier than initially forecast due to a tropical dipole based near Indonesia apparently. Fortunately we have not seen to many frosts as a result so far. Ground is starting to dry out a bit, still soft but not waterlogged

Gentle rain today. Nothing like what Florida to North Carolina is facing with Isaias. Hurricane season isn’t much fun is it.

It's been really wet lately, rain every couple of days, fog etc. Has been close to record cold for July (set in 2015). By comparison July last year had 15X the number of hours above 20 C. We have had heat though but it's like a roller coaster, scorching for a few hours or for a day or two then back to the chiller. Had a severe thunderstorm warning tonight as Humberto passing offshore has spun off a few thunderheads. The ground is already pretty wet and I'm concerned for the garlic which is harvest coming up next week, I could do without the thundershower this time around. But we'll see... Forecast for the week is to dry up and warm up, that would help.

We tied a record for 90°+ days in this area in July - 21 - and August is not getting better! 75° dewpoint, and 89° (92° high forecast), so the heat index is somewhere in the high 90s. Simply put, it's disgusting out there! This is why I tried to get most done out there yesterday and Friday, though there is always more to do. And Isaias is headed this way...I'll know more tomorrow.

yesterday, sunny, and nice all day, temps in the 80s.
today, it rained all through the night, and into the afternoon
with temps in the 50s. it has been a decent summer so far, but holy moly,
its august already.

We are now in a Heat Warning extending for another two days. Today in the evening it is still 27 C with humidex 32, I'm not sure what it got up to but it was sure hot in midafternoon.... I'm thankful for a few clouds and will poke outside to see if anything is desperate to be watered... what are the chances?
I just checked the conversion to F, doesn't sound too impressive after all with highs in the 80's and humidex in the 90's.
Well there's no AC anywhere, so for us... it's Heat Warning hot.

we had an intense storm come through last night, thunder, lightening, heavy down pour, wind for a couple hours. weather alert was warning
of golf ball size hail, and possible damage to vehicles, and structures. we didn't get the hail in my area, but we got everything else. i filled up jars with water in case we lost power, but didn't.
some of the tomato plants got knocked over, requiring additional staking i thought we were getting another storm late morning, but it cleared up,
and was sunny and breezy the rest of the day, temps in the 70s. it was a pleasant day.

[mention]rxkeith[/mention] you can't go wrong filling up a stash of water. Murphy's Law says if you go to the trouble you won't need it. OTOH, if cosmic laws fail, you won't be sorry.

We haven't had this much rain since spring. It's rained five of the last six days for a total of 6.1" and chances are good for another t-storm this evening. I checked my historical weather data and see that a five or six day stretch is not unusual here for July but it usually occurs around the third week of the month or so.

No complaints here! There's no standing water anywhere. It just keeps soaking in. I love not having to water.

I had another storm go through here today - it moved slowly, and dropped a lot of rain in under an hour - 3.4". Wicked thunderstorm, but not much wind, fortunately.

Absolutely Tops , got in two Fishing trips in a Row with plenty of Fish Frames for my Maters ..

It is dwarf pruning weather here. A cooler summer with few hot days. Cold nights down to 10C. Not quite a summer of no summer. All adds up to powdery mildew type weather. Dwarfs are far too crowded for their own good with their very dense foliage. Never seen pm on eonothera before.

Well, holy smokes. What a summer.

Last year was the coolest and wettest since I began gardening. I thought, surely it would be back to normal this summer - it couldn't be worse, right?

Wrong! June and July (particularly July) were cool, overcast, and WET. Our entire patch of peas had to be pulled because the roots rotted from the rain. Normally, we get 25-40lbs of peas (shelled). The winter squash is about a month behind (so we likely won't get any...hard frosts hit in early September). Dry bush beans are 2-3 weeks behind. The string bean plants are only 4-5 inches tall. Two of the three types of summer squash aren't producing. This month has brought us 2 hot days, with 3 more forecast this coming week. Otherwise, the daily "highs" have been between 16-20 degrees C. Nights are decent, around 10 degrees C. August is supposed to be stinking hot - what's happened?!

The tomato plants have loads of flowers, even this late in the season, but not many have set. About half that have set are small and oddly shaped. I am hoping for at least 3 good tomatoes from each plant that I can both eat and save seeds from. I will be counting tomatoes individually this year instead of by the pound.

Lesson learned: in this part of the country, I should always, always, always grow at least two early varieties. They aren't flashy or exotic, but they're reliable.

The varieties that seem to be doing the best (relatively speaking...) are Black Sea Man, Bellestar, Principe Borghese, and it looks like I will have a few Jewish, Work Release Paste, and Hungarian Heart as well. Fingers crossed that Candy Sweet Icicle will produce some nice ones and ripen; I really want to try this variety!
