Close your eyes and you can almost smell it! Great looking soil.

Now about that top wire on that electric fence. Is that hot? Do you have critters six foot tall in Kentucky needing a zap? lol

The very top wire (almost 8ft) is down currently. White tail deer can stand beside anything shorter & jump without even running. I've went from battling deer to raccoons. The solar fence will keep the deer out for the most part but those raccoons are thieves/vandals in the night.

Wow, haven't thought of this thread in 3 months. LOL Onions are doing well. It's been the most challenging garden I've planted in recent memory. Lost 32 out of 34 tomato plants that I raised under lights, numerous melons of several types, cucumbers, squash, beans, broccoli & peppers way behind years past. We have had freezes, floods & dry periods & it's just now mid/late June. :D Onions, cabbage & kale have fared well though. 2nd planting of tomato plants have a good fruit set so far. Blackberry bushes looking good this season after pruning them heavily over the winter.

3 months have sure made some changes to this garden. I'm so sorry to hear about all of your losses but it looks as if you recovered quite nicely. It all looks to be very tidy and healthy.

Yes, onions look great. Which varieties did you plant Do you have any issues with cabbage worms in your broccoli?
How did you lose your tomatoes?

I lost a bunch of my tomatoes & peppers due to a vole.

I've ordered Candy, Red Candy & Super Star sets from Dixondale for the last few years with great success.

Typically we do battle cabbage worms but for some reason they haven't appeared yet. (Probably over there chomping as I type this)

Tomato plants were frozen 8 days after I had set them out. Even though I did cover them. Late freeze here in our area damaged a lot of gardens. I lucked out & found the local Amish greenhouse still had a good variety of plants both heirloom & hybrids.

It's looking really good despite the losses you had.

You know, I haven't seen many of the cabbage worm butterflies this year and only had to put out bT once.

***whispering so the squash bugs, vine borers and leaf-footeds don't hear*** There seems to be a lot less insect pressure this year.

Same here on the insects. I have no explanation. Maybe that last freeze. I've seen very few cabbage worms and have just been picking them off by hand. Haven't sprayed any type of insecticide on anything.
