Getting ready to plant a few hundred onion plants, I bought 2 types, Candy and Walla Walla...
I planted a lot of garlic for years, but I've not grown many onions. Any tips?

The only tip I know is a curse... plant early! That means, have beds ready in the fall, before you even dream of planting seeds. Otherwise this is me, nowhere to plant em.
How are the onions doing?

I will be planning to grow Candy next year. On the Dixondale website, there are good reviews of them.

I've grown Candy from sets in the past. This is my first year to try them from seed. They are just starting to sprout now. I'll plant them late summer, or that's the plan at this point.

I plant onion seeds on moist seed starting mix, then cover very lightly with more
seed starting mix. Put them under lights. I put them out in the garden when
they're still small but have sturdy stalks/leaves. I do trim them, some people
don't. HTH

So late Summer is September? What is the temperature in AZ then? Then the onions bulb up around winter solstice?

I have planted onions in the Fall and Spring here. It's still 100+F in September. We don't see a cool down worth mentioning until
October. Depending on their size probably late Sept/Oct. They may not bulb up until Spring. I am just now harvesting onion bulbs
I planted last Fall, as well as Garlic.
I'm pretty new to growing onions from seeds (usually sets or bulbs) so not a lot of experience to offer yet.
