Has anyone here ever eaten a fully ripe Armenian cucumber or Metki melon? FYI: They're technically C. melo. Are they sweet at that stage?

I tasted a cross between Noir de Carmes and Metki Dark Green Serpent, when fully ripe, and it was awesome. Very different taste, however. It was sweet.

I've grown them and neither are what I'd consider sweet like a melon, but taste more like a cucumber. I harvest them when they are about 12-14 inches, the skin is tender and no peeling needed. I really like them and grow them every year.

An Armenian cucumber tastes like the sweetest cucumber I've ever eaten. Dryer with a bit less flavor, but definitely sweeter. The skin is also very tender, almost like it isn't there.

@Tormato
Do you mean generally, or the ones that are ripe enough to change color and have mature seeds? Either way, that's awesome. I like using the still-green ones like cucumbers, even if they're huge, but I've never tasted one that has changed color.

I've saved seeds from one, but it was bad (so, I didn't eat it).

I have not, but I have seeds poking of up of a Armenian Pale Green Cucumber that was a free seed packet from my local garden center.

I just planted my Armenian cucumber seedling, that I started in a jiffy pellet about 10 days ago. I might direct seed one soon - some unrelated plant died, making room for something.
