This is an empty Gulf Fritillary butterfly chrysalis (yes, the chrysalis is actually that ugly). The butterfly emerged when I went to get coffee at Starbucks this morning. I was able to get only a glimpse of the emerged butterfly hanging upside down on the bottom tip of the chrysalis before it flew away.

I will definitely be on the lookout for more.

I'm pretty sure this is her.

Part of my early morning routine is to go through the Starbucks drive-thru line and get a latte. I do this nearly every morning.

A monarch caterpillar decided to make its chrysalis under the roof of the shed. I'll keep my eye on it so that I can watch when the butterfly emerges.

I had a very nice healthy Mexican mint marigold small shrub. Then late last month the frigid air from the North Pole came far enough south to kill the plant down to the ground. When I went to cut the plant back I noticed a green monarch chrysalis on it. I cut the branch containing the chrysalis and put it underneath the shed. Now it's about to enclose. This will happen soon. I have no idea how it survived all of that cold.
