using left over growing medium

I have about 3/4 of a bale of Pro Mix BX left over from last year. Would this be ok to use to transplant seedlings in or should I buy a new bag? I know that you should use fresh seed starting mix for sowing seeds, but is it the same for transplants after the seedlings get big enough to transplant? What are your thoughts ?

I would use the Pro Mix you have, possibly adding some fresh mycorrhizae inoculant. I have used mix from previous years with good results.
It's not what you gather, but what you scatter, that tells what kind of life you have lived.

I use leftover Pro Mix to plant seedlings up all the time without any issues. As long as you have kept it in a place where it is dry, then you should be just fine. If it was stored outside where it gets wet then I might worry about it a little more. I always add more myco's even when using brand new product.

Thanks for the reply. The Pro Mix was in my green house,so it stayed dry. I see no reason why your couldn't use it ,but i wanted some opinions.

Sometimes it takes me 3 years to go through a bale and I've noticed any difference. The bale lives in our basement.

My bag is closed and in an outside shed. I have no problem reusing it. For seed starting I add more perlite. Like the idea of adding more myco at transplanting.

If it has been outdoors don’t bring it into your house because it is Highly likely to have insect eggs in it. (Fungus gnats at the least )
You can use it outdoors but buy a new bag for indoors.

I always have leftovers and use them successfully, except one year when I used some to start seedlings, not noticing at first that a piece of pink insulation from my basement had been put in there. I suspected a mouse nest - and droppings! Not good for seedlings, but it was fine to use for potting up :).

Put a Mosquito Dunk in your watering can if you see fungus gnats.
