He was 86 years old. Charley Pride was my favorite singer "back in the days" - still have his 24 first vinyl albums, many of which I converted to CD. His concert in the Spectrum (long gone) in '70 was the first one I went to, and I saw him a number of times over at Valley Forge, too. I think I have over 60 of his songs on my Amazon music, which I listen to all the time, while out in my garden, or in the workshop.

Even in his later years he would do charity concerts, and you still knew it was him, even last month, when he was at the CMA.

May he RIP.

So Sad to hear this. He was one of my favorite singers. I saw him several times in concert over the years.

Not a singer but a rather famous football player.
Tom Dempsey died of compilations from the virus.
He was the famous half footed football kicker.
I just recently was discussing Charlie Pride with some guys.
They had no idea he was African American.
I guess that's what you get when you download music with no album cover.
Oddly my co worker Salazar who will soon be 30 knows all the music from days gone by.
I guess because of his parents.

You can't argue with a closed mind.
You might as well be arguing with a cat.

Class act, Charley Pride was. Good sense of humor, too. See excerpt from the wiki below. Also, Charley Pride was a Pro baseball player. The Wikipedia page on him is pretty interesting. Texas lost one of it’s most distinguished, talented and gentlemanly residents yesterday, RIP, Charley Pride.

“The success of "Just Between You and Me" was enormous. Pride was nominated for a Grammy Award for the song the next year. In the late summer of 1966, on the strength of his early releases, he was booked for his first large show, in Detroit's Olympia Stadium. Since no biographical information had been included with those singles, few of the 10,000 country fans who came to the show knew Pride was black, and only discovered the fact when he walked onto the stage, at which point the applause trickled off to silence. "I knew I'd have to get it over with sooner or later," Pride later remembered. "I told the audience: 'Friends, I realize it's a little unique, me coming out here—with a permanent suntan—to sing country and western to you. But that's the way it is.' "[18]”
