I'm an Idiot Grill.

Yes an idiot.
For some time now I have wanted to build a BBQ grill not a pit just a grill to cook meat on.
I like it this way better than the offset smoker thing that I for some reason dont care for that much.
Not only mine but anyone else that cooks from one including the best masters in the land.
My choice and my tastes right?
Well I have a pipe stuck in the ground by my drive that has been there for many years.
From my deductions it is the remains of the old satellite dishes that many people bought into years ago to get free HBO and such.
That didn't last long did it? LOL
Well here this stupid thing is cemented in the ground that it would take a large machine to get out.
I tried to pull it out with a one ton diesel truck and it laughed at me.
Why not use it for the support of a BBQ grill??

I feel like an idiot for not thinking of this sooner.

That's an interesting idea. What kind of grill will you attach to the post? A home made one that uses a barrel cut in half?

Probably some sort of park type grill I copy from pictures of one I like.

Sounds exciting... Hope to see more pictures...

You might also try simply re-purposing a propane gas grill.

Seems like people are either sick of the yucky taste of propane, or getting something larger... and I get kickdowns.

I don't want to use propane... but rip out the gas burners, remove that hose and propane bottle, light a wood fire inside, and voilà a perfectly good grill.

Somebody gave us a propane grill a long time ago and my husband did the same thing. We used it with charcoal for a couple of years. But then it burnt through the bottom. Guess they really aren't meant for high direct heat.

My fishing buddy and long time freind started it.
We are always looking out for eachother and picking scraps up on job sites.
He being raised up around a machine shoo as well as I we see a chunk of metal and see what it could be not what it is.
The other day he gave me some 1/2 X 24 inch hot roll rod.
So I started thinking what to do with this then looked up and saw the pipe cemented in the ground.

Got really nice drill press TIG/stick welder engine lathe and all manner of tools.
Time to clean the place up and get started.

This is going to be the Argentine grill I wanted to build but never did.
I wiil do it in the work shop section of the forum.
One problem was staring me in the face.
That was because I kept looking at other grills and that kept me in the box.
Everyone was copying off of eachother.
The solution to my problem is simple.

I'll be watching this. I know my own easy do-it grill is staring me in the face. Deep seated need to char food on a flame. Bring it on, Worth! :)

Right now I'm trying to talk myself into going to the supply yard and buying a 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of 3/16 plate steel.
And other odds and ends.
Its the smallest they sell and it weighs about 250 pounds.
Cooked a nice steak on my other grill yesterday and passed out.

They tell us to line our fireplace with sand...

I do the same thing with my grill... works fine.
