It's amazing when you look back even a month and see how fast some things grow in that time. Here's the watermelon patch (if two plants can be called a patch!) back on Jun 7.

And here it is today, just 32 days later. There are four melons hiding in there and lots of little 1-2" babies.

The Beach Sunflower bed on June 22...

... and here they are on July 7, just two weeks later!

It's like being in a time warp. It seems like a long time since the sunflowers were that short but it's been just two weeks. But it feels like it hasn't been that long ago since New years Day and it's been half a year. Before long it will be time to thaw the Thanksgiving turkey, get out the Christmas decorations and this year's garden will be just a pleasant memory encased in photographs.

I always find it amazing at how fast the plants can grow. The cell growth has to be multiplying by a huge percentage. And then we wonder why we need to amend our soil every year.

that happens with the squash i grow.
they sit there for a few weeks not doing much at all, next thing you know
the vines are trying to escape out of the garden.

if you want to see that in the animal world, raise some cornish cross chickens.
at 4 weeks, they are mebbe a couple pounds. three to four weeks later they are
in the 7 to 8 lb range. thats after they are processed.

So is this how they have come up with these huge super chickens in our stores where one chicken can feed a whole family and still have left overs. It used to be that chickens were much smaller hardly enough to feed a family.
