I have been known to do that a time or two but I usually just remove that piece of the skin. It's very easy to do if you have a sharp knife.Setec Astronomy wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2022 3:59 pm Off-topic, those of you who write on your tomatoes with a Sharpie---do you eat the writing?

Why not? I grew up on alphabet soup.
I don't eat all of the writing, just a bit here and there, and it has to be on a "9" of a tomato.

After Miss Scarlett is done in the kitchen I would like to her use the pepperbox on that tomato and then bring it to me on toast while I'm in the study reading by candlelight.

Yes but the shadows are hiding the tripwire I made from the rope.

Re: Miss Scarlet in the Kitchen with the Knife
Miss Scarlet hovers about 2 to 5 feet above ground level. So, a trip wire won't work. Better you sneak back to the kitchen and grab the salt shaker, as it's the only thing that will scare her away.

I have also been known to eat the labels they put on store produce.
And peanut shells.
Here is one of my baby pictures.

I shared seeds of MSITKWTK from the MMMM2022/23 swap with someone and the two that germinated are both PL. Guess we will see what happens with them!

I'm not sure, but I think Professor Plum In The Dining Room With The Knife (off-type from Miss Scarlet) is a PL.Toomanymatoes wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 5:31 pm I shared seeds of MSITKWTK from the MMMM2022/23 swap with someone and the two that germinated are both PL. Yes, that is what I read going through the old posts. I am just assuming it's still somewhat unstable.Tormato wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 6:49 pmI'm not sure, but I think Professor Plum In The Dining Room With The Knife (off-type from Miss Scarlet) is a PL.Toomanymatoes wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 5:31 pm I shared seeds of MSITKWTK from the MMMM2022/23 swap with someone and the two that germinated are both PL. Looks like something that no one else has seen, yet. Reports that I get, are that all PL plants have produced plum-shaped fruit (like Prof. Plum). That looks like the fruit may be striped when ripe. So, if it crossed with something else, and I was the seed source, I think Girl Girl's Weird Thing is the only striped tomato that I've grown in the past few years.KinaTo wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2024 10:46 amThey are just now having fruit and what they are I do not knowToomanymatoes wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 5:31 pm I shared seeds of MSITKWTK from the MMMM2022/23 swap with someone and the two that germinated are both PL. This is how the ripe “Miss Scarlet- with potato leaf” turned out, I was so sure it was going to be striped.Tormato wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 10:26 pmLooks like something that no one else has seen, yet. The yellow on the shoulders would probably not be there if it had ripened properly. But as it was taken early from the wine as we have had frost (several nights) As can be seen on the picture with the top/ Yellow part up- it had to be taken now as it started to get muched up.
I have 2 sucker sucker plants going in my basement, hopefully I will get something more out of them. I do have 2-3 more unripe on my kitchen counter that hopefully ripens too.

very late in the season,
with yellow shoulders,
and very thin internal walls with large seedy locules,
would get a pass, on my tasting it. I do not want to end my season eating what would be a "skunky" tasting tomato (99% of the time).
For the first time, I started seedlings about a month late (due to the weather), AND I pruned off the first truss of flowers. So, nearly all varieties had ripe tomatoes much later, this year. I picked the last ones a few days ago, and having thick walls I chanced tasting them. They are as good as mid-season tomatoes. I'll be eating really good tasting tomatoes about one month later than in most years. To extend my season next year (needing good weather, especially late in the year), I will again start some varieties late, and prune off the first truss.

It was actually quite good, I was surprised that it tasted that good, with salt on it was better. But hopefully the sucker plants give me something more and betterTormato wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 2:10 pmIn my garden, a tomato...KinaTo wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 10:43 amThis is how the ripe “Miss Scarlet- with potato leaf” turned out, I was so sure it was going to be striped.Tormato wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 10:26 pmLooks like something that no one else has seen, yet.
