peebee wrote: Sun Mar 10, 2024 1:22 am @SpookyShoe you know how I love bletillas that Chinese ground orchid. My mom grew these & I've tried for a few years to find some. A neighbor once gave me a couple but before they grew my hubby covered the area with heavy stones. Then I found some online @ $30 plus shipping for 2 corms last year. Only 1 grew & it's still barely peeking out of the ground. Yours are lovely I love seeing your pics every spring. At least I have freesias & daffodils. Yes spring is here!
peebee if you are reading this, I sent you a PM so that I can get your address and send some of the bletilla corms.

The tropicals started blooming weeks ago. Canna lilies, plumeria, coleus, ginger, passion vine.

Gardening is much easier up here, but one thing I do miss about warmer climate is being able to grow aroma flower trees like ylang ylang and magnolia champaca.

First time smelling, the aroma from the milkweed flowers is exquisite.

Tropical fragrances are amazing.. Aside from the old roses, check out Lady's Bedstraw, Max, as a super fragrant bloom that grows anywhere.

The milkweed's smell great. As for trees, try a Japanese tree lilac or some (not all) of the flowering crabs have amazing fragrance.

That similar to the Korean Viburnum, amazingly fragrant, but far too short-lived?

I didn't know this was a milkweed plant growing in front the house. At first I thought it was something that looked similar. Don't know why it's there in the first place. Could be from dropping t he seeds there a few years ago.

Just got back from a couple of weeks in Croatia and got to admire some of their gardens.
I think I was most jealous about the complete absence of any sign of fungal disease! The dry Mediterranean heat seems to be the best climate possible for tomatoes.

The elderberry borer beetle is one of the prettiest things too... just goes to show, you cannot judge a bug by its cover.

A squash vine borer moth flew to the base of my zucchini plant today just as I was picking our first zucchini. They are very eye-catching! Tried to swat it but only managed to shoo it away, so I dusted the base of the plant with something deadly. I didn't know they like milkweed; that's interesting.
