Hello from Ct
Im excited to join this forum!
I currently grow fresh vegetables in a smallish garden for a food pantry with a team of volunteers. The main focus is high yield (and flavor) over variety since the need is greater than our growing space. Looking forward to learning from the community on what has worked best for them as well as sharing our experience.

Hello and welcome to the Junction. You have a very important garden and you are doing a great service for your community. There are other's here that are doing the same thing. You will find each other for sure. I can't wait to learn more about your garden.

Welcome from Austin, Texas...once called Waterloo and about 25 miles northwest of Bastrop, Texas.

I'm not sure how to post pictures, so I'll just try to describe it.TerraCayda wrote: ↑Fri Jan 17, 2025 2:18 pm Welcome! I recently joined as well. Tell us about your food pantry!
We started the garden behind the Food Pantry from nothing in the Spring of 2022. The garden today has 300 sqft of raised beds in the back of the Pantry building (garden block, 2x6x8 boards) and 100 sqft of Vego metal raised beds in the front of the Pantry building. Most of the building materials were donated by grants and shoe leather asks to countless businesses and fundraising.
Last year we grew about 250lb of veggies and herbs for the clients. About 200 families facing food insecurity shop at the pantry weekly, so.. this is is a drop in the bucket, but it is something. We are looking to increase our productivity in the existing beds and we have a grant to add more Vego beds to the front in 2025.

Re: Hello from Ct
What a wonderful story! I might volunteer in the similar local organic vegetable garden program once my life settles down after moving to a new city. It's done by a university mainly to teach children how to garden.
Good luck going for productivity! Multiflora cherry tomatoes will be your best friend
