Nice! But I thought you’d go heavier on hot peppers, lol.

Re: Tomato Grow Lists
I started a number of tomatoes yesterday hoping to get least 45 or so usable seedlings. But as it usually turns out, I will end up with many more.

Re: Tomato Grow Lists
I wanted to find a Sungold plant or two, but with the recent Coronavirus circumstances - well, you know.
With pepper plants, I will start a few seeds (really late). It has been the wettest year on record here through March 24th. I was hoping to support a local mom and pop nursery by buying all pepper and tomato plants from them, but that was a very limited selection. It has been one thing piling up on the next this year.
Pondgardener, I didn't start any Anna Margaret's Heart seeds because of how much it has rained here this year.

Re: Tomato Grow Lists
With even a whisper of a blessing from Mother Nature this should be my biggest tomato growing year, both in terms of varieties and numbers.
I had many seeds getting some age on them and some willing helpers so we're trying to replinish or bolster seed stocks and eat a lotta maters in 2020.
With 80 degree temps in the South last week and nothing close to 30's forecast in the next two weeks I decided to push the frost envelope and start planting out. I'm growing in a few locations in a combo of containers and garden. I have over 200 seedlings in various stages (many will be gifted), so there should be plenty of backups when plants go down.
Here goes...
Planted out - Garden:
Black Beauty
Christmas Grapes
Dona F1
Elgin Pink
Eva Purple Ball
Hawaiian Pineapple
Jaune Flame
Lg. Red Cherry
Mikado
Olive Hill
Pink Oxheart
Sailor's Luck
Super Snow White
Planted out - Container:
Dona F1
Dwarf Summer Sunrise
Limbaugh's Legacy PT
Seedlings in waiting:
Akers West Virginia
Arbuznyi
Aunt Ruby's German Green
Beefsteak
Black Cherry
Black Krim
Blondkopfchen
Cherokee Purple
Costoluto Genovese
German Johnson
Girl Girl's Weird Thing
Great White
Green Zebra
Lithium Sunset
Little Lucky
Not Purple Strawberry
Red Zebra
San Marzano
Solar Flare
It's probably obvious based on many of these names that I owe a debt of gratitude to many members here and/or T'ville, especially Marsha. Thanks so much!

Re: Tomato Grow Lists
Here it is March 31 and the 2 Sweet 100 Cherry F1 have doubled in size after I potted them up. They are getting lanky and early April is too soon to plant them out here normally, but I don't have much choice planting them in 5 gallon buckets. (I can't plant then in-ground due to RKN and Fusarium 3)

Re: Tomato Grow Lists
I've got several balcony varieties ready with tomatoes on them: Linda, Russian Saskatchewan, and Mega Bite. Early dwarfs: Dwarf Pink Passion and Iditarod Red. Patio Choice Yellow F1. And I just started Sunorange and Madera. Also have Neon, Purple Rain F1, and Behold F1 eggplants and King Arthur bell peppers.
Next month I'll start Galahad F1, EM-Champion, "new and improved" Matsu Express, Pervaya Lyubov, and Maglia Rosa. Finally, Stellar F1 (great producer with no cracking, so great shelf life for fall) and a couple of TBDs. So glad I'm cutting back

Starting contemplation for next southern summers grow list. Some that I know will be on it are:
Dana's Dusky Rose
Midnight Sun
Captain Lucky
KARMA Peach
Chang Li Cherry
Blueberries
Costuloto Genovese cultivars 'Sal Valente' and 'Brokenbar'
Duncan's Dutch Pear

Re: Tomato Grow Lists
I planted way more tomatoes than I had intended! I planned for about 60 plants. I think I planted well over a hundred. I guess I got excited and didn't want to waste mental resources deciding what not to plant (so as to get it done faster and, you know, tomato addiction). So, hopefully I can find room for them. (I should be able to.)
I still need to write down the full list, which I should be able to when I bring them in the house tonight or tomorrow night (it's supposed to be unusually cold for a couple more nights). I don't want to risk the wet seeds freezing and inhibiting germination.

Re: Tomato Grow Lists
Okay, here's my tomato growlist:
Here's the actual list of tomatoes that I planted (I enumerated them on 3 April 2020; definitely more than the ~60 planned plants):
[103/104 kinds, depending on whether Moneymaker and Sweet 'N' Bright are the same; 129 plants; some of the extra plants should be genetically unique from others of the same kind, due to not being true-to-type. Very few of these are from store-bought seeds, which is a departure from previous years. Most are from trades/gifts, with a fair amount being from saved seeds. Where I mention their source, that's mostly for me to distinguish them between other seed sources I have, or have had, for the same kind of tomato.]
• Amana Orange (Marsha's)
• Ambrosia Red cross F2 (F1 was yellow, prolific, and gollball-sized, with initially bland, but then great flavor; was prone to cracking; very vigorous)

Re: Tomato Grow Lists
Those tomato plants were growing sort of lanky, and it was at the point of planting them a little early in the 5 gallon buckets. I was ready - already had frost proof enough covering to use - just a couple of days away ... and then a critter got to them last night.AlittleSalt wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 6:36 pm Which tomatoes are you growing when the weather is right in your neck of the woods?
My tomato list:
1 Celebrity F1
1 Early Girl F1
2 Sweet 100 Cherry F1
Peppers:
2 Hot Banana
1 Sweet Banana
1 Sweet Cherry
I really didn't want to grow those plants anyway, but that's what the nursery had. I knew that critters or a dog/cat could turn over a flat of of tomato plants. Stuff happens. Maybe a season without tomatoes will be a good thing? With Covid-19, I'm not getting out to replace the tomato plants. I am stubborn, but not stupid.

in the mystery category is a tomato that is coming up in a pot of onion seedlings.
the onion seeds i got last year at a local seed swap. a tomato plant popped up in the
midst of the seedlings. no clue what it is or where it came from. i suppose i'll have to grow it out
to see what the heck it is.
