In addition to the varieties I committed to elsewhere, I threw in some seeds for Sant Clara Canner and they are up. If I recall correctly, the seeds for Red Penna were from 2006, and those buggers popped right up.

So, many here want to honor Carolyn and her contribution. How about this for a tribute? In her book she highlighted 100 top favorites and several that almost made the cut, I can't think of a better tribute than if the tomato community grew out the varieties she listed and then did a mass distribution. Maybe individuals could be in charge of growing 1 or more varieties from the list. They could save seed in pkgs of 5 seeds so more packets could be distributed. It could be run sort of like an MMMM. I could keep the running list of which varieties are being grown. UPDATE-By popular demand- this also includes any varieties Carolyn offered or that she spoke about highly.

People would have a deadline to send in labeled baggies by Nov 1, 2020. A redistribution to participants and others could occur in January 2021. We could then assure some of the more obscure varieties don't disappear. Her spirit would live on throughout the world as many grow in Carolyn's honor. Experienced gardeners and site newbies welcome. Any interest? If so,please post which variety(ies) you are going to grow below in this thread.

Here is the list of varieties that are not yet being grown. There are 33 varieties( from her book) left. I know some folks are waiting to make their choices when they see what is left.

If you have seeds from any of the missing varieties that you would be willing to give another gardener, please post. Perhaps there are people who might grow them and could send a SASE for the seeds? If you would be willing to do grow outs, also please feel free to post below.

I have 3 Akers WV seedlings up. I'll happily share seeds, but they're going in a bit of a remote garden where I often have losses so I'm a bit hesitant to commit at this point. Again, if I get tomatoes I'll happily save and share.

Hugh’s is germinating well but Cherokee Chocolate is being very stubborn despite being sown in both damp paper towels and starting mix. Packet is old but Hugh’s is even older - go figure! Red Reif Heart is fine. If anyone else is starting Cherokee Chocolate too that would be great as I can’t depend on mine at the moment!

16 VARIETIES LEFT!
If you can grow them, please do. Let’s see if we can get them all! Then a lot goes into Mother Nature’s hands…

There may be sources for some of these seeds from kind folks above in this thread. PM me or post below if you have space and would be willing to grow.

Also PM me or post below if you have seeds for the missing varieties, can’t fit them into your garden but would be willing to donate to another gardener. I can help coordinate any exchanges.

HL2601- have you seen Hybrid's new thread about him having saved his sister Carolyn Male's personal seed collection? He's looking for someone to help disburse the seeds. Do you want this to be part of the Tribute? Check it out.

Thanks for the head's up Nan. I didn't see it. I went over and replied I would do anything or add anything at Hybrid's request. Happy to get seeds to anyone who can grow, I got the feeling he may be thinking more long term than for the Tribute but I am open to anyone's ideas or input.

In fact I am going to ask for insight from folks after we see how many seeds/varieties come in about exactly how people would like the seeds distributed. This is such a collective project. Many probably have good ideas and I think we can come together to make the distribution great.
