Black From Tula

One of my all time favorite "black" variety tomatoes. It is regular leaf with beautiful dark green foliage with stiff leaf branches and stems. Some blossoms are mega blossoms as well..not sure why. The inside is maroon to very dark with green gel between seed cavities. It has a great earthy taste with more acidic than sweet taste. VERY thin skinned and must eat fresh. Hardly any disease issues with leaves. It is very productive and most fruit are "boot shaped". Ripens to VERY dark with green shoulders which also darken over time. It is one of my all time favorites for my climate. Give it a try if you haven't all ready.

Lol, BFT is wonderful but comes after Carbon in my lineup ... just my tastebuds.
BFT fruit are beautiful though.

Spudatula is the same as Black from Tula except...Spudatula is potato-leaf. Let me know if anyone has Spudatula seeds to trade or swap.

Black from Tula is a great tomato. It's one of those that I can not find fault with. It is on my grow list for this year and I sure am looking forward to it.

I don't think that yours are Black from Tula. It will be interesting to see what you get.

I am pretty sure you have a cross, or just a "not Black from Tula".

I don't think it's BFT either. Except for Eva Purple Ball, all my plants are cherries or dark varieties...e.g. Cherokee Carbon, African Brown, etc.

My Not Black From Tula almost look like hearts. I've never grown a heart-shaped tomato in my life. This one is about 1 and 1/2 in long.

I grew it in the fall; great fruit set even in the heat but too much cracking. I found that once it cooled off, the cracking stopped so on the tomatoes prone to crack, I am now going to wait a month longer to sow the seeds.

Barb, I sow about 5 weeks later than you, and I still get lots of cracking, the cracking slows way down in late January.

I am planting both Spudatula and Black from Tula this year. I have extra seeds, but they are older - bought from Tatiana's circa 2016 or 2017.

This is the first year I've grown it, so I too am growing from the same bunch. Still, I had 100% germination. You are welcome to have some seeds.

My Not Black From Tula turned out to be a deep rosy pink and each of the first 2 fruits from the plant weighed 2.2 ounces.

Nope not BFT but hope that they taste good for you. I am growing BFT this year so pm me in the fall if you would like some seeds otherwise they will be offered to Tormato for the MMMM and will be able to be had there.

MissS, the pink tomatoes taste great....lucky for me. Hubby had a sliced one on his hamburger and he liked it. I am picking them when they first start to blush as I am trying to mitigate squirrel damage. They take a few days to ripen on the kitchen counter.
