The Masters Has Been Rescheduled

The Augusta National announced yesterday that the Masters golf tournament, normally the first full week of April and cancelled this year, is being rescheduled for Nov 9-15th. That is huge news for this area as many businesses depend on it for a large chunk of their yearly revenue. Many residents rent out their homes to visitors, dignitaries and such for huge sums that pay for their vacation elsewhere when the tournament is in town.

I'm not a golfer but having played just two rounds back in college (a PE course requirement) I can appreciate the complexity of the game. The Masters is the only golf event I watch all year, as much for the beautiful flowering landscape as for the tourney itself, a chance to watch the best of the best. The one big plus for this year's delay will be the absence of the yellow blanket and floating clouds of pollen that greet visitors every year. The downside for the players will be the temps. My weather data shows highs in the 50's and 60's with lows in the upper 30's to mid 40's range during that time frame. Some chilly 8am tee offs!

For those of you who don't give two hoots about the Masters, that's ok. This is Area 51. You never know what you'll find here... dooooo-weeeeeee-ooooooo!

The Masters! The beauty of the course is enough to keep me watching, though I also enjoy the competition. You live in GA you get used to yellow snow.

Bless Augusta Nat. for getting it back on the schedule. The course should look - and play - very different this year.
Stupidity got us into this mess. Why can't it get us out?

Austin has had so many events canceled this year, one right after another.

You can't argue with a closed mind.
You might as well be arguing with a cat.

The Masters is very special. We missed out on the NBA season, March Madness, MLB, Hockey, and who knows about the NFL season? All of which generates a lot of money changing hands.
