What tomatoes are impressing you, today?
What tomatoes are impressing you, today? You can answer as many tomatoes as you want, as many days as you want.
Today, I'm particularly impressed by Austin's Black Cherry. It has a very open-habit (which makes fruit easy to see), and it's setting fruit nicely.
My Husky Red offtype is still impressing me a lot, too. It's only like a foot tall, and basically in the shade (with eastern sun), and last I checked several days ago, it had set nine fruit, sizing up nicely. Mind you, this isn't a cherry tomato. It's not a Husky Cherry Red offtype; it's a Husky Red offtype. It's the F2 generation of that offtype, if the offtype isn't true-to-type. It is regular leaf (not rugose); its parent was also regular leaf (which is why I call it an offtype).
Nineveh is also impressing me. It's setting fruit rather nicely. It seems to appreciate the black plastic.
Japanese Black Trifele is flowering vigorously and is looking nice.

I've been very impressed so far with Grosse Cotelee. It's put on bulk very quickly and has already set several trusses of flowers that I can't wait to see ripen!

Big Beef -- bought on a whim after reading some chatter. Largest fruit is baseball sized, setting new fruit like crazy, and a squat, strong profile.
Cowlick's Brandywine -- first truss has 8 fruits and overall amazing vigor
Marianna's Peace --multiple trusses setting fruit. Tallest in the garden.
Aunt Ginny's Purple -- loaded first truss. Incredibly vigorous.
Honorable mention: NAR. Was the runt, now growing freakishly thick stemmed and robust. BER on lowest truss, though

There's no good reason for parsley. None.

Re: What tomatoes are impressing you, today?
Fun thread, Shule!
It's very early in my season, so it's usually height, vigor, early or abundant fruit set that grabs my attention in a good way. With that in mind, shout outs go to:
Aunt Zabeth's Belgian Beefsteak for its height and early fruits (has bad early blight already, though)
Blackberry for its abundant early fruit set, stockiness and promise of great things to come.
Bogatyr Maslov for its height, vigor, and large early fruits
Chocolate Miracle for its sturdy, compact growth habit, pretty & early fruits, and potential to give Blackberry a run for the $
Erdie Family Heirloom for its height and early large fruits
Taiga for having the largest and potentially first ripe fruit.

Brandy Boy for its thick stems and huge leaves. Taller than anyone else in the garden! I bought this as a transplant because it looked so healthy, but didn't have an extra-large cage to put it in.
KARMA Miracle and KARMA Apricot for their robustness -- thick stems, huge leaves -- especially after being slow to germinate for me.
Marzano Fire for its massive flowering! Makes me wonder if my saved seed was correct. More flowers than multifloras nearby!

Today, I'm most impressed with B.S.X. It's a PL tomato that's an F4 cross between Brandywine Sudduth's, and maybe Black Cherry. It's setting a whole bunch of fruit, like a prolific cherry, but they're getting big. The largest are salad-sized already, and growing, I believe.
Others that impress me today are Silvery Fir Tree and Riesentraube (they're flowering heavily, and although Riesentraube doesn't have many flowers per truss—it's supposed to—it has a lot of trusses and bright yellow flowers). Also, Cherokee Yellow Red Pear is fruiting nicely.
Here are the two largest fruits on B.S.X., so far:

I'm growing Marzano Fire, too! I'm pretty excited about it. My plant is still young, though.habitat-gardener wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 9:00 pm Marzano Fire for its massive flowering! Makes me wonder if my saved seed was correct. More flowers than multifloras nearby!

Believe it or not, Red Robin! I knew they were tiny micro-plants so I figured they would put out a small handful of micro-sized fruit. Please forgive the brown leaves, I panicked when my EML's got aphids and sprayed these guys with diluted Dawn too. Too strong a solution but they have soldiered on regardless.
(I don't know why no matter where I place the cursor it flips one picture to the top and I can't move it down.)

Re: What tomatoes are impressing you, today?
Great thread! It definitely changes daily
Today it's Rebel Alliance. It was among the very last tomatoes started inside, then got planted out to one of the coldest, windiest, wettest spots, but it has already caught up with the first sowing of plants in height, and is bushier than them too. The others from the same batch are maybe half the size of the first round. And its first multiflora branch looks amazing, so much anticipation!

Today I am impressed by my Micro Tom. I started them on 5/26 of the 5 seedlings I potted on 3 are in full bloom and the 2 slow pokes have small flower buds on them...

Are you talking about all in the upper group in the photo, or just the few yellowish ones on the left? Because Lucky Cross is a yellow with red center bicolor, never red or pink fruited. Mine did crappy in S.Fl. it was a disease magnet. Little Lucky did much better.

Ginger2778, my Lucky Cross all ripened to solid red; no yellow at all. Seed from Curtis.
And it was pretty disease resistant, too. I’m careful about labeling but ...

GGWT is a winner. Growing over a Texas Tomato Cage with Extension. Over 18 fruit in the 8 -14 oz range. No disease yet. Might be able to have more fruit if it stays below 70 degrees at night. The taste is superb.

Today it's definitely my Taiga plant. Just over the past day or two it's put on a serious growth spurt that has its height rivaling others in my garden that have been pace-setters!

Large red cherry and Juliet.
Amazing considering my total neglect.
Setting fruit in extreme heat as we speak.
Maybe not the best flavor maybe not very big but by damn they ain't no store bought tomatoes either.
I enjoy coming home from work picking a few and letting them cool in the house.
Better yet picking and eating out of hand in the morning for a snack on the way to work.
I want a plant that will keep on giving past the spring here in Texas and they are far and few between.
