I have no idea I dont know for sure what kind it is.
If it is the giant white corn it might get to 25 feet tall.
The kernels are huge.
The white hickory king corn gets to 12 feet tall, but this isn't hickory king.

Look how fat all the other ears are too in the background display in the photo! It's hard to believe the kernels aren't all starchy but I guess they're not if they're selling them. You gotta ask the produce manager what that is! I can just hear it now... "Uh, I dunno. They just send us stuff to sell."

Probably a market in Peru and the market would know what it is.
They eat this corn boiled and dried.
I actually like field corn picked and boiled at just the right time.

At one time, field corn was about the only choice and you do have to pick it at exactly the right moment; I swear in 2 minutes it goes from sugar to starch! A BIG thank you to the generations who worked very hard at isolating and breeding for sweet!!

Peru! OK, I thought you took that pic at a local produce stand.

Has anyone seen a tremendous increase in the cost of corn locally? Suddenly this year around here it is 10-12.00/dozen! Anyone know why?

It was about normal for awhile and as usual going back up.

I got home to my container corn and found it in much need of water, cant remember if I watered yesterday or not.
Decided to raise the drain/sight tube and fill the bottom about 1/3 water.
It is already perking up.
Plus I gave the soil a good soaking.
One time last year I let the containers dry out so much when I filled them the whole container full of soil popped up and floated like a raft for about a day.
The basil I had in them popped right back.
This is the reason people plant corn early here.
It would die without irrigation and 100 plus heat.

Our Silver Queen is as pollinated as it's going to get, I guess. The ears are looking like they are trying to fill out. Fingers crossed ... Hubby hit them with Surround this morning so hopefully that will keep the bugs and the deer from doing much damage. Some of those stalks are well over 7' tall!

worth1 Basil is very forgiving" thank goodness. I forgot to water mine the other day and I thought for sure it was a goner. A 2-liter bottle of water and next day was as good as new. Hopefully the same goes for your corn!

Didn't even get in the house and planted the corn in two containers.
Left the tomato plants there until the corn sprouts.

Just planted the pink eye purple hull peas in and around the corn and in the containers I planted the other corn in.
Don't expect much out of them if any.

Nope and if it is the giant white corn it wont before the first freeze.
They say it can get to 35 feet tall or some such rot.
It is around the well let me see......
Six to seven feet tall on some of them.
Others shorter.
I dont think it is the really big giant white corn but something else.

We sprayed Surround early in the week. Hubby just went out and sprayed some stuff that's supposed to scare off deer, rabbits, cats etc. Something is getting the ears by the fence. And I caught that *@&$#*× feral cat sneaking under the fence this afternoon. She got sprayed with the "jet" setting on the hose nozzle until she finally found her way out. 😠

Corn up 4 days later because it is about an inch tall now.
Planted 3 inches deep.

Gonna give some of my silver queen seeds to a co worker.
He is from Ecuador on the west side of the mountains.
probably some purple hull peas too.
And a surprise pint of ghost pepper sauce.
He loves the stuff.
