RIP Remy Rotella

She passed away this morning. I'm not yet at liberty to say the cause, but it wasnt Covid-19.
It's a severe loss to all of us in the tomato world. I am proposing a tribute to her by growing her favorite tomato this year, Stump of the World. I will think of her every time I see the plant growing. She made a difference to so many.

Oh dear!!! What sad news. We sure have lost one wonderful gardening lady. She was generous, kindhearted and so much fun. She was a gem for sure. We all will miss her. I grow Stump every year. It's one of my fav's too.

That is too bad, I used The Sample Seed Shop and grow Stump of the World every year. I know her page says she is a breast cancer survivor, but of course I have no idea of what her current illness was. So sad, no matter the reason.

On another site it was mentioned that she was diagnosed with liver cancer in early July and was so far advanced that there was little that could be done.

Started trading with her almost 15 years ago. We grew a lot of each other's tomatoes. No weeds or bad tomatoes in Heaven.

Just saw this; shocked as I didn't know her last name and I thought, oh no not the Remy I know from Sample Seed Shop. Very very sad. She shall be missed indeed.

In my garden this year are her Dot's Delight, Erdie Family Heirloom, Georgische Fleische and Irish Eyes rudbeckia. Cherry Queen cleome will be sown in my perennial be this fall.

Remy was a kind and generous person. Although we communicated through e-mail, I still remember several years ago my wife and I indicated we were going to vacation at Niagara Falls and Remy offered to show us around and even put us up. Now I wish we had taken her up on the face-to-face visit. Sample Seeds was one of the three seed sites I purchased from and never had a clunker. Stump will be on the next list and will have the honor name Remy's Stump of the World in my garden.

I met Remy many years ago (20+ or more) on a hummingbird forum. I have given her seeds and of course I have bought many from her. I am growing cleome 'Cherry Queen' and salvia 'Lady in Red' this year which are seeds that we traded with each other. I will be offering these seeds this year as a gesture of remembrance of this fine woman.

Oh no, that is so sad I just found her Sample Seed Shop last season, from which I purchased and grew her favorite, Stump of the World, and other kinds of tomatoes. I was so excited to keep returning to her shop for future purchases. I hope someone will take care of her seeds and continue her legacy.

Very sad to hear this. I only found her and Sample Seeds two years ago. She seemed a very kind and generous person. I have her Stump growing right now and had already planned to grow it every year as it's such a great tomato. RIP, Remy.

I learned of Remy's passing yesterday and am still in shock. I started trading seeds with her in 2006....in fact she was one of the first people I traded with. I've met her many times, either grabbing lunch, attending her Tomato Tastefests or picking up seeds. Back in 2010, when my Dad passed she travelled to attend his visitation and funeral....a welcome surprise.

Remy had a heart of gold and would go out of her way to help people as much as she could. She let a few of us camp for a good part of the weekend at her family's 'cottage' where the Tomato Tastefests were held...so we wouldn't have to do all the driving in one day...plus cook when we got there.

I'm going to miss her huge smile, big laugh, wicked sense of humour, advice on gardening and other things, and mostly her friendship.

Rest in Peace Remy. Enjoy your dancing with angels and the jam sessions in heaven. <3

Breast cancer has touched so many lives and when you think you have it beat it can rear again and another battle begins. It is always so sad to hear of someone, so dear to many, who was taken away unexpectedly and far too soon.

So true my wife went through the same thing for 10 years and the liver was the final blow.
My heart goes out to Remy and the suffering she must have--- no, 'what she went through.
