2020 MMMM non-tomato seeds

#1

Post: # 31039Unread post Tormato

This will be a thread for any participant to post, if they'd like, non-tomato seeds that they are sending in.

I will attempt to post all non-tomato seeds after all packages arrive (perhaps with the exception of a few Nifty Fifty pepper varieties which may remain a mystery), so that participants can choose from that list.

I'm planning to send some WhipperSnapper southern peas that were developed to be harvested as "snaps," so are pretty much like shorter Asian long beans (same species), but these grow as relatively short bush beans. They were very productive for me this year and were great in the heat of mid-summer and because they are bush beans and come into production quickly, they make a good bridge crop between spring and fall crops for rotation.

This variety was developed by the USDA as an improvement on Better Snap, but then pretty much slipped into obscurity since there really isn't much of a commercial market for southern pea "snaps". I finally found a source, but had to buy a pound which is way more than I'll grow in this lifetime. So I can send a 1/2 pound if there is enough interest... I'm hoping others will grow some out and find them useful and keep them going.

Here is more info, although the pictures are pretty ugly. Scroll down in the article to check out the rows of them with all the beans sticking up in the air to make for easy picking.

I'd like to trial them side-by-side with a "stickless wonder" type of Asian long (bush) bean that I have. I also wouldn't mind finding out what a cross of the two would produce.

As a Tribute to Remy, I will be sending in seeds of the flower Cleome 'Cherry Queen'. I bought my seeds from her and grew them this year. They get about 5' tall, are pink, have thorns and smell a little skunky to some. They are very deer resistant! They are great for the back of the border and cottage type gardens.

peas...

The number after the variety is the number of peas, not number of packs, those without a number means that I have at least 20 peas of that variety.
As they're getting up in age, this may be the last time I list them.

i am sending gary most of a bulk bag of johnnys jumbo romano bush bean seeds.
the seeds are 2011. i didn't know i had them until a couple weeks ago.
i will leave it up to gary if he wants to include them. i will say i had jumbo
seeds from a different source about the same age that had been on an enclosed
porch for several years, then downstairs in a damp unheated basement for a few
more years. i still had about 75% germination. these seeds have been stored under
much better conditions.
also included are several packets of oregon purple pod peas saved seeds.
one pack of bush buttercup squash 2016
a 1oz pack of black beauty zucchini 2014, and 1oz pack of vegetable spaghetti squash 2015
both from baker creek.

brassicas...
(broccoli, cauliflower, turnip, mustard, cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, rutabaga, etc...) My excuse for not listing each type with each variety is that it should be part of the MMMMystery. But, really, I'm just too lazy at typing it all in. ;)

Varieties of '19 with an asterisk could easily have some crossing.

Varieties with three asterisks are romanesco types, nearly impossible to grow. Wise gardeners would punt on these.
