Well, that heater was apparently about to die, anyway, so I got a very small, 250 watt heater for $10. It kept the greenhouse 20 degrees warmer than outside, so about 55 degrees, which was just about perfect. Tried leaving the tomatoes out there last night, and they did fine during the night. I turned off the heater, but left the greenhouse closed up when I went to work for an hour. Outdoor temps were around 40, greenhouse about 65 when the sun came out. When I came back, it was 85 degrees in there and my plants were falling over. I thought they were going to die. There are still only 2 trays, so I grabbed them and brought them inside hoping they'd come to life. They did. I think going from 55 to 85 in an hour was a bit of a shock. They're inside for the day and will be inside at night for a bit longer.

These were after they'd perked back up. The peppers took longer than the tomatoes, and I really thought the eggplants were goners, but they came back to life, too.

My front yard 🀣. I'll just do it yard sale style. I live across the street from a small grocery store/restaurant, so there's always traffic. And advertise well before hand. Last time I tried it, I grew 68 extra plants, then advertised on buy/sell/trade groups, I was overwhelmed by the responses, so instead of meeting everyone individually, I told them I'd have them set up at 1pm the next day, they sold out in an hour and a half. I will be more organized this year, now that I know there is a market for heirloom tomato plants. I should have about 350 plants to sell.

Edited to add the flier I made for it. It's probably still evolving, but this is it as of now. Suggestions are appreciated.

I blacked out my address so you guys don't all show up πŸ˜‚πŸ…πŸ…πŸ…

Yes it does work. Last year I gave away 100's of plants off of my driveway and I am planning on doing it again this year. I grew the plants for the less fortunate but I could not get them to them in my normal venue last year due to covid. I don't know who got them rich or poor or just people that were wanting to try them but each and every plant found a home in just one day. I'm just happy to make someone else happy and let them learn that there are better things than store bought tomatoes.

My personal plants, most of them, 26 ish tomato varieties, peppers, eggplants, tomatillos, and some other stuff that probably didn't need to be started early.
IMG_20210314_143918624_HDR~2.jpg
The first of the plant sale plants, 90 plants. There are more to pot up, but weather was lousy today and I just don't feel like it
IMG_20210314_143854373_HDR~2.jpg
These will stay in the greenhouse from now on. Low temps are going to be hovering between 35 and 40 for a while, the little 250 watt heater raises the temperature about 20 degrees, which is pretty much perfect.

Looking great! Popping in to say I think your idea of housing the greenhouse up against a window so you can pop a heater out there is brilliant!

Thanks guys! I'm excited about the sale.

I just found out that the person who runs the farmers market just cancelled the whole season. No input from vendors, nothing, just a Facebook post saying it's cancelled. A few of us vendors are going to try and take it over, but we have to make sure we can get it from her completely and don't end up with her still being involved. The rest of the vendors have decided that I should run it. I don't think I signed up for that πŸ˜‚. But if it means she's out, I'll do it. It just a small market, but has been poorly run the last few years. I think it's something our community needs

Glad to see they are growing so well, and that you have such a good location for selling. Good luck with the sales, as well as your own garden this year!

Your plants all look great, I hope you're able to rescue the market and sell them all!

If you don't mind, could you share some more details on the buy / sell / trade groups you mentioned? I'm not sure how to find them. I started a ton of plants to sell, but I live wayyyyy outside town on a dead end road, so a driveway sale is definitely not an option. I had some ideas for where to advertise, but so far they've all fallen through. Would love some help.

Those are facebook groups. Just look up (in facebook search) your town or county or general area with the words "buy sell trade", groups will come up, join the one with the most people, or whichever one you like the best, or all of them πŸ˜‚

Well now I feel silly... for some reason I thought it was more complicated than that. I'm not used to facebook, just started using it very recently for plants... Thanks for explaining!

Greenhouse is filling up, and I have a lot more to pot up, I'll be getting creative over the next few weeks.

Next year, bigger greenhouse! And perhaps more stability, it's windy here! I have this staked and tied really well, but I still hear the plastic blowing around like crazy when it's windy.

P.S. the big bucket of hay serves no garden purpose except to feed the rabbits, greenhouse keeps it dry if it rains

I'm finally done potting up tomatoes for the plant sale. The last 96 plants were a mix of Cherokee Purple, Large Red Cherry and Mortgage Lifter. The Brandywine didn't make it to pot up because they all grew regular leaves, instead of potato leaves (they were Sudduth), so who knows what they're crossed with. There are 9 already potted up, so I'll sell them as mystery tomatoes. I ran out of room in the greenhouse, so the last ones went in 3 big clear tubs that'll come outside during the day and stay in the greenhouse at night. It's still too cold to go without heat at night, but it's warming up.

I've never grown Lupine, just found a pack of seeds, my sister must have bought them a couple years ago. They're such pretty seedlings.

The flash washes it out a bit. The 3 extra tubs fit in the open space in the middle, now it's a really full house. I've used the tub method for years, it works really well. The only thing, though, is that you have to bring them in at night. Now the greenhouse gives me a place to put them. I was annoyed this year that they don't seem to sell the ones with "clear" plastic tops anymore. At least locally. I did finally locate the 2 I had last year deep in my garage, they have clear tops I could probably use on these.

It is all looking fantastic! Amazing how quickly things progress. I admit when I saw the bin of hay, I wondered about potatoes lol. I hope the sale does well. I am sure it will!
