No Color At Augusta National?
The Masters golf tournament begins here tomorrow as it's always the first full week in April. This is almost as early as it can be held. Yesterday I watched the last hour and a half of the women's amateur golf tournament that was being played there and was shocked at the lack of color on the course. I had to look hard for anything blooming but then I tuned in late enough that all players were past Amen Corner (10,11,12) so I didn't see that area. If there was any color anywhere it would be on those big banks of azaleas surrounding those three greens.
Maybe it's too early. I hope they didn't get burned by the cold the last several days. Azaleas in this area are just now starting to color up so maybe at the National they're in full, fat bud and ready to explode open with the pretty warm air coming into the region. The weather forecast is calling for 80's for the next five days then two 79's. Sometimes just one week like that can make a huge difference. We'll see how everything looks by the time the final round happens next weekend.

Looking forward to The Masters. The Azaleas blooming at Augusta National are a treat.

Augusta National was once a nursery, and a cattle ranch and turkey farm.

I'd imagine they'll start blooming by Saturday.

I was thinking the same thing. The azealias bloomed here 2-3 weeks ago, and are almost done. I was thinking that the timing would be good for Agusta.

I think there was a famous Texas football coach that turned down an invitation to become a member of the exclusive Agusta County club.

It looks like it just took another week for everything to pop open. The azaleas at 12 and 13 are as gorgeous as ever! Today's final round should be a real fight as yesterday's Moving Day saw some big moves up and down the leader board.

I will be tuned in. The Azalea Flowers indeed look spectacular. Is Augusta National pretty representative of the terrain in that general area or is it extra undulating? The pines look especially tall also. My favorite golf tournament to watch, the Masters, partly because the grounds are so stunningly beautiful.

Re: No Color At Augusta National?
The Augusta National course has been carefully sculpted. They are so very meticulous about everything. Back in 1990 we had torrential rain from two tropical storms that merged over Augusta. Rae's Creek flooded and really wreaked havoc on Amen Corner. Interesting article about how precisely the National repaired it to exact specs:

The topography of the surrounding area here varies from flat here and there to lightly rolling terrain. We are on what's called the Fall Line, a strip that runs from Columbia SC, through middle Georgia to Columbus GA. Basically it's where the flat coastal area starts rising to eventually meet the Blue Ridge Mountains in north Georgia and it gets more rolling as it goes.
There's a saying here that something's "as tall as a Georgia pine." True. They make great telephone poles.
Timber is a huge industry in the state from great swaths of pine planted land belonging to Weyerhauser, etc to acres of trees belonging to average homeowners. It's not uncommon for someone to look at their particular stand of pines and to remark that it's their retirement money or their children's inheritance. Pines grow so fast that many areas cut are immediately replanted and can be later thinned for pulpwood, chip material etc while letting the rest grow big and tall.
Today should be very interesting after yesterday's Moving Day!

I just hope the people that do the hard work to keep the place looking nice get paid well to do the job.

I've never held a golf club in my hand, but I like golf. I like watching it on TV, it's very exciting. Most transfers are on the Golfchanel, but Masters usually are not. It is broadcast live on ČT Sport. Yesterday was really a "moving day". I look forward to today's final round, which will end sometime at midnight. Of course, I also have my favorite player, but it didn't work out yesterday and he stayed at five below par. It is a beautiful area.

Re: No Color At Augusta National?
The first and only time I ever had a driver in my hand as the guys were telling me how to swing I hit the ball farther than they had ever hit one in their life.
And straight too.
They thought I was pulling their leg about never golfing before.
When I was in school as a kid the kid across the highway and I made a golf course on their property and we golfed with wood sticks from the sawmill and a rubber ball every day after school.
There was the dreaded sawdust trap the sawdust bunkers the creek the woods and so on.
Lots of good fun it was.

Congratulations to Hideki Matsuyama! Deserving and gracious winner of the 2021 Masters. Enjoyed being a spectator from my living room. Felt like a normal Masters.
