Bower It's 98˚F here at 5pm and I was wishing it was a whole lot cooler, but not what you are getting. Wow!...

wow bower,
even here, our weather hasn't been like that this far into june although we have had frost
alerts into the third week of june, but no snow. it was a hot weekend in the 90s here followed
by 80s and 70s. it rained today. we had a couple hard down pours early, and late. some sun in between,
but not a good day to be outside in the garden. late afternoon we got treated to a thunder storm and sunshine
at the same time. kinda weird, but there was a nice rainbow to complete the show. temp hit 78 today.
still trying to get the garden in.some work accomplished, but lots to go.

Crazy weather in the South East corner of Oz, we got 60 mm/2.4 inches, folks 15 miles away 144 mm /5.8 inches and I hear local mountain got 280 mm/11.2 inches in 24 hours. 250 000 houses without power mainly due to trees over lines.

Still a few patches of snow on the ground this morning. Snow in June is rare but not unheard of. I've seen it before once or twice but this is the first time I've seen snow on the ground in June - we got about 2 cm here. There's a weather history bar at the bottom of my envcan page and pretty well every day in the first half of June has seen frost, while about half of them have seen snow. Those days have also seen record high temperatures in 25-27 C range.
What is stranger of all is to hit the extreme high and then the extreme of snow two days later. And another frost advisory tonight.
I feel sorry for the little patch of barley I sowed last week, that had the high temperature and then the low within its first days through the ground.
Every crop at my friend's farm is snug under row cover, and it only makes sense to farm this way!

east wind blowing all day. i really dislike that east wind. guaranteed cool weather.
it was foggy all day from before dawn to after sunset. rained a bit, making the fog worse
for a time. temps stayed in a narrow range in the 50s. it was a dreary day.

When the wind blows from the west, the fish bite the best.
When the wind is from the east, the fish bite the least.

Sticks and stones will break my tomato plants.
I had a dishpan with 8 plants that got waterlogged outside.
I put the pan on a warming mat to try to dry them out.
As a goof I put 4 match sticks good side down around each of 4 plants.
The 4 matchstick plants croaked and the other 4 recovered.

Right now, it's coming down HARD out there! It's not going to rain for long, and I hope that wind isn't doing damage, as it is VERY windy, with a lot of thunder and lightning. The rain is already letting up, as the front is moving out. It has almost stopped already, in just 20 minutes. It rained .74" in that short time!

It rained almost every day, the temperatures were relatively low. This is forecast to change, with drought and temperatures above 30 ° C. For me, this means a lot of extra work. Every other day I will have to go to the garden and water. I just hope there's plenty of water in the well.

Another front came through after 12:30 am, and it was heavy, but went through fast, and only dropped .21". Looks like that will be it, but you never know! Added to the amount I got with the first storm, the total is up to .95".

pepperhead212 I suppose that is from TS Bill? Second named tropical storm of the season. Will be breezing by here tomorrow, and the overnight temperatures will soar to... ahem... those preferred by tomatoes. :D

Heavy thunderstorms last night in the DC area. Torrential rain and lots of lightning, including two strikes that the lightning map recorded as directly in my back yard, which I would believe based on the instantaneous thunderclaps. We got 2.4" of rain in two hours, according to my rain gauge (1.75" officially at National Airport). Large hail, some tree damage, and some stream flooding in the surrounding areas, especially west and north, but no major issues right where I live.

The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang has a good photo of a direct lightning strike on the Washington Monument last night:

Getting hot again today, but only in the mid-80s - about average. Next few days in the 90s again, and only chances of brief thunderstorms. Back to being dry around here, but that's good - it's good to have a dry spell the few weeks before garlic harvest, instead of flooding!

Hot here! By local standards, well above normals. Highs are over 70 F just about every day in the forecast week ahead, and night time lows as high as 60 F. Not too humid for a change, either, close to 40% RH. Normal temps would be 63/45 F day/night. All our breezes are west and south for this fair weather. I took 15 tomato plants out of the greenhouse and they're now living outdoors in the goldilocks zone, for as long as it lasts. ;) I suppose, until the wind changes.
Full moon on the 24th, can't be trusted.
