Since I put my digital rain gauge out in the spring, it has registered 22+ inches of rain. One day of heavy rain I forgot to put the umbrella down and it was under the umbrella so it didn't register. So it was actually even higher. The news has been watching the totals, we are in the 2nd rainest July since records starting being kept in the 1930s, and it might end up being the most of all time. I wish I could pipe some to you guys who could actually use it!

Keep your rain to yourself, please, no telling how much we’ve gotten this year, but it’s been too much. We are getting into a more welcomed pattern of brief showers with a whole lot less ceaseless downpours. More sun, less clouds. Grass can be mowed, bushes trimmed, weeds pulled or killed, puddles and ditches can finally dry out some. Showers I can handle, cloudy, gloomy days with one thunderous drenching downpour after another, not so much.

There’s been no big heat yet. I mean it’s typically very warm and tropical here on the coast all summer and that’s fine and dandy with me, but we are barely getting to 90 degrees at the hottest of days. Not bad in the shade and evenings are definitely pleasant, so long as the rain lets up. I guess I’ll see what August has in store. August historically is our worst month for heat.

Does the smokey haze, from the Oregon fires 3 thousand miles away, count as weather? The sun and moon both looked like an overripe SunGold, the other day.

Thunder was good, I even saw lightning and we got a couple of inches of rain after all, while still staying steamy and warm... until it dropped. Today our high is in the low 50's again. Cold drizzle and fog. Mother Nature is certainly moody this summer!

finally, some rain.
we had brief showers the past couple days that didn't even get the dust wet.
we have a thunder boomer going right now, and it sounds like a good rain coming
down. we need it.
temps have been in the 80s, mostly sunny with that spooky haze some days from the wild fires
in canada.

I think it's possible the late summer rains may have ruined our corn cops.
It seems there are a lot of fields not harvested yet.
And that dried out corn doesn't look too good.
Lots of discoloration on the stalks that spells mold.

The new normal is rain every day. No 24 hours without a few showers. Relentless string of showers, drizzle, thunder occasionally. Not much wind. Almost tropical humidity today and enough rain to keep me indoors (mostly!). We had a break yesterday afternoon when the sun came out and puddles dried and I washed the heap of clothes and hung them out, and was very thankful to get them dry. Humidity dropped to 67% wa-hooo! :)

It's been low to mid 90's with late afternoon showers. Odd for July which is normally pretty dry but it does happen once in a while, about every five years or so. Unfortunately the rain and accompanying high humidity is wreaking havoc with various fungi in the squashes and tomatoes. Starting today we're in for a five day or so run of mid-upper 90's with heat indices between 100-107.

Overall, July is our hottest month. August will have a few streaks of 100 but July has many of these upper 90 streaks.

A hotter and drier year than normal here this year. No rain for at least 6 weeks after a drier spring.
Trees and shrubs are not used to this! More cedars will die.
No smoke yet so it could be worse.

Got a random thunderstorm build up just after lunch, dumped about 8/10 an inch in 30-45 minutes. Bright and sunny now, the storm built up right over us then literally rained itself out of existence, the radar loop shows it. Saved me from having to water. Thank you, storm

We're back to humid heat and dry ground again. Windy, thank goodness. Maybe a bit breezy gusting 40 mph. Humidex in the 90's is tough on me regardless. Nights above 70F too. Tomatoes steadily ripening but the foliage is taking it hard, and I'm just too hot to care. Even with windows open and the howly wind, it is hotter indoors than outside. I should make myself a lounge area in the cool basement, if this is what climate change is bringing. I know a lot of you are having extreme heat and many of those places are also used to it and prepared with AC. This is not something we ever had in our summers that I recall. Even the occasional hot day, you would not have the oppressive humidity like this. And we are having a lot of this weather compared to the norm. 70/54 are the normals for this time of year. Not to be a whiner when others are worse off, but just commenting about the change.

Lightning strike knocked the power out briefly just before I went to bed last night. Three times sound asleep and woken by the loudest thunder I've ever heard. Well it has cooled off nicely to about 70 F and I won't have to water the peas. :)

We've had a bit of rain, at last, but not enough to put out a forest fire up a mountain to the south. The change in wind direction brought the smoke here. A bit cooler now with more high temps forecast for midweek and on. Tomatoes have been slow to ripen but they are starting now. Hoping that all this dryness does not kill off the moss and mycelium underneath, in the woods. I hate seeing all those dry patches in the forest.
Now, with some moisture in the air, time to watch the mold grow.

Sunlight is a bit too yellow for this time of the morning.
Wildfire smoke in the air is going to make things seem a bit other worldly today.
The light goes just a bit off setting the hee·bie-jee·bies going in a corner of my mind when I look around outside.
Going up to 35 C today.

Thundering currently, with a couple garden variety pop up type of thunder showers so far today that lasted a few minutes, rained about 1/10 of an inch each and then dissipated. Was planning to mow, but I’ll put that off for the time being.

Still no big, unusual or extra heat here this summer so far. Some summers go like this. Nothing menacing so far in the Tropics for Texas, I’m sure folks in Florida are keeping an eye on the two systems out there since they both are generally tracking that direction. Got to get through another 6-7 weeks of hurricane season here before we can start to relax. Late September through October hurricanes strongly tend to go other places well to the east or well to the south.

I'm so done with the humid heat, already! We had probably 6X the normal amount of muggy days with humidex over 30 C/ 86 F. When it goes into the 90's I just can't do much of anything. Have to go find things to do in the basement - too easy, always too much to do. But not doing much! Soon as it drops below 30 C I get a little bit of energy. Otherwise, I'm spaghetti. Not very happy spaghetti. Humidex went to 37C today - 98 F. There was barely a puff of wind either. An hour after dark, humidex still 86 F. More to come this week!

The tropics come to Newfoundland! Heat and humidity has a “noodling” effect, doesn’t it? I embrace sweating! I have to, otherwise, it would be miserable for months. Pacing and smaller goals help. Dietary adjustments help, think salads and fruit. It’s finite, the heat! Especially where you are. Even here, October breaks the heat’s back here. Finite is good for weather. Not endless anything.
