I like this pairing.
2kilo, maybe turning woody inside at this size, I'll find out, could have let it stay there to go to flower next year, but couldn't resist.

Re: columbus 2021
The Esterina F1 seeds I bought from Amazon (big mistake I know) are probably F2+ or some random seeds.
The Earthbox plants all have BER, but I bought a gallon of liquid Cal-Mag, so we'll see how they'll recover. But this is a good experience for next year. Because of how tall the trellises are, I will just grow a bunch of cherries single stemmed in them. The grow bags ones are pretty healthy, as usual, thanks to my use of 1/3rd manure compost. Curtis Cheek
Most surprising because it was the one that almost lost all leaves after the snow. Copper River & Great White Blue Great White Blue Honey Drop
I'm liking this one a lot so far. Hope it doesn't cracks easier after rain unlike Ambrosia Orange UBX and Sungold. Maglia Rosa Sunrise Bumble Bee
Because of diseases, bad location, and wrong seeds, this is the first time I managed to grow them successfully after 4 years. Very excited to see the ripe colors. (Black Cherry)

Re: columbus 2021
This garden has been neglected for the last 4 months, it's a giant mess. Not looking forward to cleaning it up next year.
previously. Beautiful, easy to grow single stemmed, sweet, and thick skin so less pests, doesn't crack from the rain, and store well. I'm a lot more likely to grow thick skinned tomatoes from now.
I'm growing a lot less varieties next year since I don't have as much free time, I'm probably just going to grow a lot of Rapunzel F1, fordhook chard, and bellpeppers.
Today is probably the last warm day until May next year, so I had to get off my lazy butt and finished the fence. The neighbor moved out so we took the opportunity. It's mostly leveled.
The one crop that surprise me is fordhook swisschard. It's the best leafy green I have ever grown in my life. This was back in July.
Another all time favorite tomato I discovered this year is Rapunzel F1 which I posted the photos I'm growing a lot less varieties next year since I don't have as much free time, I'm probably just going to grow a lot of Rapunzel F1, fordhook chard, and bellpeppers.

Your garden looks fantastic for the end of October! Now that you've had a full season with them, what did you think of Honey Drop, Curtis Cheek and Sunrise Bumblebee? I've enjoyed following along with your pictures this year; thanks for posting.

Can't give them a fair review because I stopped taking caring for the plants, and they were lacking water and fertilization/compost.Seven Bends wrote: ↑Sun Oct 31, 2021 6:01 pm Your garden looks fantastic for the end of October! Top 3 favorites from this year that I would grow again are Maglia Rosa, Oplaka, and Rapunzel.
Sunrise Bumblebee - very prolific. Skin become too soft as they ripe and the skin would tear as I pick them which mean I can't really store them. The fruits get attacked by pests a lot. I like Pink Bumblebee is better. I saved PBB seeds that produces larger fruits than normal.
Honey Drop - very prolific, small like Sungold. Spicy smell similar to the Ambrosia series. It was in a container and I didn't water or fertilize it, but I imagine it's pretty sweet.
Maglia Rosa - very prolific and sweet, better performer than Blush
Curtis Cheek - an amazing tomato, this time I left it mostly for the wild life, but I have tasted it before, it have a very smooth gel texture, one of the best oxheart
Opalka - this plant grow very slowly in the early stage, but later in the season become very prolific performer, it's beautiful when sliced vertically and look good in recipes, one of my favorite and very popular for the squirrel and racoon
Copper River - I remember the first time I grew it was the sweetest beefsteak tomato I tasted, this time the fruits are big and produces pretty decently, taste wasn't there, but maybe because I didn't fertilizer any tomatoes on the ground this year.
Thinking of what to grow next year. Durable skin and being able to store well on the counter is going to be my preference.
A lot of Rapunzel in the Earthboxes. And on the ground, the candidates are: Mega Marv, Opalka, PBB. And this kumato alternative saladette that I discovered. Far as I know almost no vendor is selling seeds for it right now. It's the most healthy and prolific saladette I ever grew in containers when fertilized well.
I would like to send out some seeds for this kumato alternative and my Pink Bumble Bee if anyone is interested.

Re: columbus 2021
I grew Sunrise Bumblebee and Pink Bumblebee side-by-side in my garden this year. Unfortunately, I wasn't crazy about either one of them. SB produced well early, then stopped when it got hot and never really got going again. Pink Bumblebee hardly produced at all until early September after the weather had cooled down, then in September and October it produced very heavily. Both plants were hit hard by early blight and septoria in my garden (in fairness, all my tomato plants suffer from these, but SB & PBB got it earlier and worse). I had a lot of stink bug damage on the fruit, too.
I could live with those problems if I loved the tomatoes, but they didn't wow me. They're some of the prettiest tomatoes I've ever seen, but I don't like the texture or the flavor all that much. If I picked them early, they were firm but the flavor was primarily tart with not much else going on. If I left them on the plant longer, they became mealy, viscous and bland. I felt like I never succeeded in picking them on the right day, or maybe I left them on the counter too long before eating. On the plus side, I roasted a bunch of them last night with olive oil, garlic and oregano, and they are delicious that way after sieving out the skins and seeds.
Thanks for your variety reviews; I love reading other people's opinions on tomatoes. I haven't grown any of the other varieties you discussed.

If you'd like to try a giant kohlrabi, that doesn't get woody, Superschmelz is the one. I think I still have some seeds.
