Re: How's your weather?
we had a couple cooler days earlier in the week, high 60s, low 70s, good work outside for a long time,
and good sleeping weather. then the santa anna or whatever wind is from due west kicked up for several days
and has brought that near 90s weather are way. every year it seems, we get those high winds in august that knock
everything around. most of the tomatoes are securely staked for a change. i lost one bean plant, snapped right off.
weather has been dry for the most part. all that smoke has been causing problems here. normally we have pristine air.
all that smoke and haze is causing allergy symptoms here for a lot of people including myself. lots of sneezing, snuffling,
and nose blowing the past couple weeks. i was going to water today after church, but ended up going horizontal for about
four hours. why is it getting dark outside? is it going to rain? no, its 9:30 pm. oh!

When it's smoky I wear a mask outdoors. It helps a lot.

Fred passed by and donated 2.1" of much needed rain. He also carried away (although briefly) the upper 90's for a couple of days. Back to low 90's with a lot of humidity from the rain. It's a pretty day but big old cumulus look like they might want to get together for a party this afternoon. Fine with me.

Dew points really up there, totally expected for mid August. Showers can pop up anytime, one just did. Summer’s on the clock, though, tick, tock, tick, tock.

Re: How's your weather?
There's a blocking high down in the North Atlantic and it is keeping us very hot and humid for another couple of days. Weatherman says it is keeping Henri from coming North as well, for now. Some temperature records fell in central NL today. In perspective, we are just a shade off the record highs almost every day this week, and around 10 F above normal. Temp above 80F and humidex here in the 90's again, but the heat of the direct sunshine was moderated a bit by high level haze - yep, that's smoke from the west alright. Traveling on air currents high above the ground though, so for us there's no air quality issues. Setting sun just a red blur. Moon has been red as well, or red ringed. She sees it all, both near and far.

I can see the water from here.
Hurricane Bob 1991 I had no generator and my car died the previous day.
Much better now.
Generator(s) car batteries 12v fans 12v battery boxes crank radios lights dvd players siphon pump for siphoning gas 5 gal gas tanks
2 burner propane stove butane torch for melting butter on my toast.
people were partying tonight.
Pre-hurricane parties.
Lost 2 trees last year in a tornado triggered by the aug 4th 2020 tropical storm.
Everybody from the shore inwards lost at least 1 tree, they fell in different directions.
They say they tracked it from long island to here.

People heading to shelters to escape will have to deal with covid rules.
They can't put hundreds of people shoulder to shoulder like the good old days.
Sounds like a super spreader event to me.

Stay safe slugworth . Sounds like you're well prepped for it, as long as you don't get flooded!
We had a huge thunderstorm last night, with the sky lit up from all directions and lots of rain for thirsty ground. Cooler today too. I'm happy to have cooking weather again!

When I was growing up we didn't have air-conditioning and the big pressure canners and hot water bath kettles seemed to be going 24/7 all summer long.
There was a big window fan in the living room and that was it.
My mom would tell us to turn the light off so it wouldn't heat the house up.
In the evening we would sit on the porch and snap beans for the next canner load.
Or put tomatoes in the big kettle before we made canned tomatoes or whatever else.
The constant okra picking.
Chicken killing and butchering.
In August we couldn't cool off in the creek because it was the dog days of summer.
I don't know how I lived through it.
Been getting early to work before the sun comes up to work on a roof to put up donor antennas.
Already 80 degrees before the sun comes up.
Blistering hot by 10 in the morning on a big flat white roof.
Still living through it.
Don't know how.

Re: How's your weather?
I flipped burgers one summer in my Grandmother’s Drive Inn Hamburger joint, this in the full Texas summer heat and with zero Air Conditioning. People drove in and ate in their Air conditioned cars or out in the shade of the patio. All the while, I was standing right up next to the burning hot flattop flipping those patties, talk about hot!! The worst heat I’ve been up against is working in Attics, those get up over 130 degrees here in the summer. Or it might have been in Magnesium Casting out at plant A, that molten metal surely radiates some big heat, none of those old plants had much A/C. I was generally just passing through the plants doing contracting work, those full time Dow hands had to be pretty tough to take that kind of heat. Roof tops are bad too, though, they seem to focus the sun’s rays, especially if there isn’t any breeze. I’ve been up on a few patching leaks.
My 1998 GMC truck’s A/C is out. I’m used to it. The old trucks had the side vents which was nice. This model doesn’t, but it’s still doable.
Going to 93-94 degrees here today. Dew point at nearby airport is 79 degrees. That’s about as bad as it gets 12 miles from the GOM. No rain in sight. Blazing sun, a few anemic clouds. I spent an hour or so handling the stihl hedge trimmer yesterday mid afternoon. My shirt was completely soaked in sweat by the time I was done. Jeans mostly soaked too. Have to wear tough long pants to prevent Poison Ivy and thorns from tearing me up. Bring it on. I generally feel considerably better when I sweat out a few pounds of liquids. Not sure what that means about my state of health, but it is what it is.

Re: How's your weather?
Been hearing on the news where kids in school are dying from over heating during sports practice.
The coaches are facing some pretty stiff charges in some cases.
One girl died running bleachers outside for basketball practice.
These kids aren't acclimated for this.
They live in air-conditioning most of the time then they do this to them.
In my opinion the people that come up with these ideas aren't qualified to do their job.
I don't have children but when I hear these stories of how someone does this to people's children it really ticks me off.
Sorry for the rant but maybe a little prison time might stop this.
We didn't have air-conditioning in school and the heating wasn't great either.
We had to sit in class with our coats on many times.
Our school wasn't rich.
Poor Native Americans for the most part.
No tax base to speak of.
Even to this day they still have the same stadium from what I can tell.
Since probably the 50s or 60s.
Now in the new schools it feels like an ice box when you go in.
Then outside in the heat to run and practice.
Really.
Sometimes it's just too much for the human body to take.
Then the kids don't want to look weak in front of their friends and push themselves beyond the limits and pay with their lives.

For ten years I did the PM's and fire mantinence at the Plant A Mag cells.
Took about a week.
Also calibrated the gas detection under where they make the pour.
Temperature around 150F if I remember correctly.
Did it in steps.
Zero gas detector get out.
Calibrate get out.
Test get out.
Took about an hour.
Felt like an oven.
Then those blasted turbines in the power plants.
It was always me that did them.
All volunteer too.
I got paid a lot more and nobody knew it.

Re: How's your weather?
It's been dry around here, but I just got .35" of rain in about 12 minutes! There was .05", when I passed the gauge to go to the back porch, to check the dehydrator, and in just a couple of minutes, it was at .13", when I came in, so I went to the basement to turn off all the water to the outside (at about 5 pm, some of the timers to the drip lines start turning on, and in succession after that), and it was on .29" when I got back upstairs! It sort of stopped at .35" - just a narrow front - but more is coming!
Best wishes and positive thoughts to anyone in the line of the storm in the NE - Henri.

Just a shoutout to all our friends and members in Tennessee, hoping you are safe! after reading about the flash flooding on the news. Yikes.
Hoping you're safe and undamaged ContainerTed Vanman HenriSportif !
Further north, news says Henri has caused some coastal flooding but doesn't look too bad. I hope you're high and dry slugworth
