Re: Finished Tomato Plants
I dig mine back in. Diseases are burned, then put back in.

Mostly Burned, 20 + plants are too much green all at once the compost piles. Bug or squirrel eaten maters get composted. Maybe a few of the plants, too. Rest get dragged off and put into the burn pile. Can’t really use much ash from the burn pile in garden here, soil already wants to trend alkaline.

I have always pulled and put them the trash due to diseased leaves. I might start shredding instead. Shredded material should hot compost without a problem.

Re: Finished Tomato Plants
By this time every year spider mites have arrived so all my spent plants are pulled and thrown in the trash bin. None of the summer vegetable plants ever get composted for this reason.

Re: Finished Tomato Plants
Yeah, mine died earlier then normal. I really need to get out there with the flame thrower and make a bonfire. I’ve usually composted them but this year I had a lot of disease so I’m going to burn. Plus, I had army worms and the usual stink bug/leaf footed bug infestation. I’m hoping burning might kill some of the bugs.
I can get a pretty hot compost by piling the dried horse manure over my plants and weeds but I’m still not confident that it will kill all the disease.
